I'm cynical too, but I agree on that. Existing customers nearly always get the shaft on deals. I won't keep my sub after the trial, but the whole thing has made me think more positively of Spotify. If I ever do want a streaming music service, I'll probably go with them.

With all the free and super cheap music trials available, it doesn't feel like I'll ever have to actually subscribe to a music service.

In the past year I've had Amazon Unlimited for 3 months, Pandora Premium for 3 months, Apple music for 4 months, now Spotify for 2 months.

I actually like Amazon Unlimited the best, but can't justify paying full price for it after the 3 months with the alternatives to try out for free. Not to mention my mp3 (from CD) collection.

I just placed my first Amazon order (<$10) without Prime. I still get free holiday shipping, so a minimum purchase wasn't required.

The kicker is, I payed for it with my Amazon Prime Store Card. I wonder if they'll make me give up the card now that I no longer have Prime.

Presumably they'll drop the rewards from 5 percent to 3 percent.

I forgot that they had a regular card. I just checked my account and it reverted to the regular card, which actually has no reward benefit. I only had it for the 5% back, but never used it enough to offset the $119 yearly Prime fee. I'd have to spend $2,380 annually at Amazon to offset that fee and I spend nowhere near that amount.

Come Monday, I'll give 'em a call and close the store card account.

Well, sure, but the extra 2 percent is another of the little perks. Plus for Black Friday, they upped it to 10 percent for Amazon devices; right now they are giving 20 percent on some Rokus. Free shipping, Prime Video, Prime Music, and the rewards--for me it's worth it, and I am likely to renew.

For BF/CM, I bought my Dot 3s from Target at 15% off the sale price and my Echo 2s from QVC at 25% off the sale price.

Glad it works for some of you. I'll re-evaluate in a year when I have to start paying full price for a video service. I seriously doubt I'll keep Hulu because the no-commercial plan is more expensive than either Netflix or Prime.

I just tried this - I had the same attitude - at worst, I'd pay $15 for it. As of now, my term WAS shortened from 3 months to 2, and I haven't yet seen a $14.xx charge on my credit card, although it's only been a few minutes. Fingers crossed that one won't show up.
