Thank you for checking that. Yes, it's capacitive then, which leaves it definitely out of the running for me if I ever need another ereader.

I also prefer IR (for the reasons stated above mostly, but since I don't travel with public transport in the cold much any more I might change my mind once the slow postal service finally delivers my Clara later today), but not so much that capacitive would prevent me from buying... I'm curious, would you care to share why you don't want to use a capacitive screen? |

I do a lot of my reading in bed. I go to bed wearing cotton moisturising gloves, because I have patchy eczema. The gloves stop any unwanted scratching while I'm asleep. I also have nice moisturised hands. I suppose I could put the cream and gloves on before I sleep, but I like reading on the dark and just having to put the reader down and go to straight to sleep. I'd have to put the room light on and other undesirable things. I also don't like page turn buttons. My first kindle had them and I found the Click sound really annoying. The other half used to make daft comments about the speed of my reading. Does anyone know what the last IR touch model Kobo made was please? Last edited by Liesse; 06-05-2018 at 11:08 AM. |

Sadly, this is not true. My sister has the device and it's definitely not IR despite numerous claims to the contrary. Not even her stylus (that works on every other capacitive screen in the household) is functional on it. So the last IR Kobos would actually be the Glo HD and Aura H2O v1.
On the Clara HD: Can someone report on the Clara HD's battery life please? It's listed on seemingly every site as "weeks" - is this merely Kindle-style advertising or do prior models really last markedly longer per charge? (The Glo HD's promised 8 weeks/28 hours equals about a week of reading to me, and much less than that would be a downside, if not a deal-breaker.) |

Ah yes that makes a lot of sense. Thank you for sharing. (Maybe you could put something conductive over the top of your cotton glove while reading, like the cut off tip of a nitril household glove or something, if you do end up with a capacitive screen somehow...) Sorry, I should have said that it has none of the advantages of IR so it probably is not IR. My Glo HD can be used with (some) styluses and almost any other object besides fingers. The Aura 2 only ever responds to fingers, and is even then more inconsistent than the Glo HD.

And the glove issue... I take my reader with me everywhere, reading on public transportation, stopping to read while out hiking, and in cold weather. I live in a temperature range of 100° down to -15°F, there's no way I'm spending money on 4 or 5 different weight gloves with the special conductive material in a finger, nor will I ruin my gloves by sewing it in myself, some get pretty expensive for cold weather. There's also the times when you're wearing 2 pairs of gloves, would that even work then? Those special gloves also limit you to using the one designated finger, and how I swipe depends on how I'm holding it, I even use my thumbs on both hands at times. A capacitive reader just isn't workable for me. The glove issue makes me wonder why anyone would want one, unless of course they only read in their warm and cozy homes. |

I have the Nook ST and the Nook Glowlight 3 and I don't think I've ever noticed a click from the page turn buttons. Also, both sport IR screens.
