For the downgrade, I'd look at the board id's instead to see if there was a rev bump, possibly?
For this, nope, I'm pretty sure it's there, in this very spot of the S/N, it's just in a (potentially esoteric) encoding I haven't quite figured out yet (whereas it used to be just plain hex, and that was just fine...). |

"Notice" section changed to cover more of the current situation.
We really need someone to write-up the 'factory special' searchbar commands in the factory-initial firmware packages. They will probably be the doorway to bringing the KOA fully into the family of jailbroken Kindles. And if you don't have a KOA - just assume it will be the same as the KV (or even the KT2). = = = = I promise, those instructions will be getting smaller, RSN, as we handle all of the special cases that are being found. The secret is that use factory version 5.7.4 to downgrade, not the 5.6.1.1.And wait it restrat a long time .Maybe ,the factory version 5.6.1.1 just work efficientlly for JB the older device of KPW3.

Yeah, the first boot is *expected* to take longer that usual, no worries there.
But that the newer PW3 package seems to behave better is a good news though ![]() |

Congrats on the new jailbreak!
I went through the steps and I *think* my Kindle Voyage is now jailbroken. There are three folders in root: documents mkk rp I then updated it back to v5.8.1. I'm trying to install the Screensaver hack now. Copied "Update_python_0.14.N_install_pw2_kt2_kv_pw3.b in" into root, and ejecting the Kindle from my Mac, the "Update your Kindle" option is greyed out. So I plug the Kindle into the Mac again, have a look in root, and there are no files except for the 3 folders. Copied the file over a few times and I realized while folders and the files in the folders remain, any file in root are getting deleted automatically. I must've done something wrong but what? Has this happened to anyone? |

UPDATE ERROR: 4
Using a KT2/Basic Kindle (serial starts 90C6) with 5.7.2.1 firmware, I have attempted to follow the instructions in this thread but receive an error message at step 4 part 5 when "updating" to the factory firmware. Specifically, I get "UPDATE ERROR: 4. This update was not successful." I can resume by pressing the power button.
I have successfully performed a factory reset, and downloaded the "update_KT2_5.6.0_initial.bin" file from pastebin, which is the correct firmware for my Kindle. The option to "Update My Kindle" is available in settings; I select this and wait a short time (a minute or less) before the error message appears, as detailed above. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing? Thanks. |

@vurt: You need to use MRPI to install custom packages on FW >= 5.5.x
![]() @mrricheyrich: IIRC, 4 is the error code for a checksum mismatch. Double check that your download is not corrupt (we provide md5sums for that very reason), both on your computer, *and* once transferred to your Kindle. |

Just reporting in, brand new black PW3 (G090G1) arrived today with 5.7.4 firmware. Skipped initial setup, update_PW3_5.7.4_initial factory image and the JB went smoothly without a hitch.

Which I understand you recognized at the time you did it that way. Thanks for the report. Last edited by knc1; 07-11-2016 at 06:47 AM. |

Quick question, sorry if it's already been posted here, I don't have the time to check...
I have a PW3 G090G1 and I tried to downgrade, but my Kindle told me that it needs repair. I saw the replies about using a "DO_FACTORY_RESTORE" file, and I have done that, but it doesn't seem to want to restore and continuously tells me that there's a repair needed every time I try to reboot it. It seems to be the same repair needed info for when I tried downgrading it. Is there a fix for that? I understand Kindles getting looped with the downgrade, but I didn't think it should loop when the factory restore file is in there. Maybe my Kindle isn't seeing the file in there? Any suggestions on what to do? |
