I only notice the cones and slight shadows with my Oasis with a blank page. They are far less noticeable than my KPW1's which is still noticeable with a non blank page. I have never seen any yellowish or any color with either device. Perhaps it is because of my age. I am in my 40s and need eyeglasses to read.

As a recent buyer, I have some concerns regarding the uneven lighting in Kindle Oasis.
Unfortunately I am one of those people that if they spot something their brain can't simply let it go. I have observed that my Oasis besides the left to right unevenness in lighting, which i read is common has a slight gradient on the left side (away from the keys). I have uploaded a picture to get an idea; https://www.dropbox.com/s/zdk3ti48e0...issue.jpg?dl=0 As you can see from the photo, I just copied a line from the left side and pasted to the right side. You can see the difference between the sides but the most annoying thing for me is the gradient starting from a whiter colour on the top to a more yellowish on the bottom. Since its my first kindle, is there any required time for the e-ink screens to "settle down"? For a £270 ereader, do you find this acceptable? Last edited by Smaugtd; 07-04-2016 at 05:14 PM. |

You might try turning down the light. If that is at a lower setting, return it and get something else. |

They're all like that. Only you can decide whether or not it's acceptable to you. What varies is people's perception of it. I can visually see no trace of the colour gradient on my Voyage, so personally it doesn't concern me in the slightest, although if I take a photograph of the screen and look at the colour components of the pixels of the image, I can demonstrate that the gradient is there.
Your call at the end of the day. |

Are you sure they are all like that? My understanding on the specific issue is not a technical flow (leds being on one side), but probably different light level of the leds themselves. I understand that most people won't notice it, but that doesn't change the fact that the screen quality is not the best. I'll probably give it back and swap for a new with the hopes that I will get a better screen. That's the main reason I posted here, to see if other Oasis owners experience exact the same issues. I really doubt there are Oasis screens out there without any gradient at all. There probably are stronger and weaker gradients, though. I can see the gradient on my Oasis when I look at the screen in a dim or dark room. It's not all that awful, the gradient on my Voyage is worse, but it's definitely there. However, I never read in a dark room, so I never see the gradient while reading. In normal ambient light the gradient is not visible at all.

All LEDS will show some gradient. That is how the lights work. Good luck with the replacement but if you notice even subtle changes you will probably not find a compatible Oasis for you. |

All frontlit kindles have this issue. Some folks are not able to observe it, others observe it and are not bothered by it.

Rather condescendingly convenient to say that all who don't see are not able to. All those here and other boards and Oasis reviews who say they have good screens are just vision impaired.

If someone gets a screen they're not happy with it's natural to try to discover where their particular screen falls in the available spectrum of screens; it might affect their decision to exchange it and hope for a better one, return it and wait for the next model, or just try to get used to it. If you're lucky enough to get a screen you're happy with (as I did with my Oasis, although not with my Voyage) then any possible flaws not visible to you or not annoying to you in whatever combination of screen and ambient light you read in I don't see why you'd care if someone else looks at your screen and sees pink elephants on it. ![]() |

I don't care what somebody else sees on my screen. On public forums when several people are saying a good screen is impossible it is only right for those with good screens to say so. That way people reading these forums at least know all screens are not bad.

Let's put it this way: there are those who claim to see defects in any Kindle screen, no matter how good its owner regards it as being. Hence my remark that it's all a matter of perception. At the end of the day you're absolutely right: why should you care what someone else thinks of your screen? You're the one who's using it, not them.
