Odd. Unfortunately I can only check the UK and CA links since Amazon.com knows me. I also see http://www.amazon.com/dp/B01921JHGK/ at $0.99 no publisher |

But not being able to tell your American subscribers that a particular work of fiction is in the Public Domain in their country and it is in the MR download library, just because it is not in the Public Domain elsewhere, seems a disservice to the American users. Maybe a rule that users can say a given work is in the public domain in a specific country but only if they include a list of three or so PD Download libraries they could check to see if it was available would satisfy the copyright police. I do know that shutting down discussion on what is or is not in PD in specific countries and where a work can be found completely, seems very unsatisfying. He was saying if you live outside the public domain regions, don't tell us about it if you get the book illegally.

Rose Daughter by Robin McKinley is $2.99 in the US today, published by Open Road. This is one of her re-tellings of Beauty and the beast http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OGWASU0 https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/ebook/rose-daughter Award-winning author Robin McKinley returns to one of our most enduring fairy tales to tell an enthralling story of love and redemption Once upon a time, a wealthy merchant had three daughters . . . and when the merchant’s business failed, he and his three daughters left their grand house in the city and moved to a tiny cottage buried deep in the countryside. The youngest daughter, Beauty, is fascinated by the long, thorny stems of an unknown plant that overwhelms the neglected cottage, and she tends it until, the following summer, its rich, fragrant flowers are the most glorious things the sisters have ever seen: roses. An old woman tells Beauty: “Roses are for love. Not . . . silly sweethearts’ love but the love that makes you and keeps you whole. . . . There’s an old folk-tale . . . there aren’t many roses around any more because they need more love than people have to give ’em . . . and the only thing that’ll stand in for love is magic, though it ain’t as good.” There’s no magic in the town of Longchance, but, the old woman adds, Beauty may not know that this is the result of a sorcerers’ battle that happened many years ago, a battle that left a monster, or perhaps a beast, in an enchanted palace somewhere in the deep forest . . . and a curse concerning a family of three sisters. |

Sasha: A Trial of Blood and Steel by Joel Shepherd is currently 99c at amazon (both in the US and Europe (though not the UK, Aus or NZ as far as I can tell). Published originally by Pyr This seems to have a large number of positive reviews http://www.amazon.com/Sasha-Trial-Bl.../dp/B01BEOY8V2 http://www.amazon.de/Sasha-Trial-Blo.../dp/B01BEOY8V2 Spurning her royal heritage to be raised by the great warrior Kessligh, Sasha's exquisite swordplay astonishes all who see it. But she is young, untested in battle and often lead by her rash temper. In the complex world of Lenayin loyalties, her wilfulness is attracting the wrong kind of attention. Lenin is a land divided by its beliefs: the Verenthane of the ruling class and the pagan Goeren-yai, amongst whom Sasha now lives. The Goeren-yai value swordplay and honour, and have come to see Sasha as the great spirit who will unite them. But Sasha is still searching for what she believes and must choose her side carefully. Soon she will face her moment of testing. Is she ready to lead? Can she be the saviour the Goeren-yai want her to be? |

If you paid for it then you got it legally. Or in other words, if you did something illegal to obtain the book, keep quiet about it.

Midnight Crossroad by Charlaine Harris (A Novel of Midnight, Texas Book #1) is $1.99 https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/eb...ht-crossroad-1 http://www.amazon.com/Midnight-Cross.../dp/B00FKEYHM8 From Charlaine Harris, the bestselling author who created Sookie Stackhouse and her world of Bon Temps, Louisiana, comes a darker locale—populated by more strangers than friends. But then, that’s how the locals prefer it… Welcome to Midnight, Texas, a town with many boarded-up windows and few full-time inhabitants, located at the crossing of Witch Light Road and Davy Road. It’s a pretty standard dried-up western town. There’s a pawnshop (someone lives in the basement and is seen only at night). There’s a diner (people who are just passing through tend not to linger). And there’s new resident Manfred Bernardo, who thinks he’s found the perfect place to work in private (and who has secrets of his own). Stop at the one traffic light in town, and everything looks normal. Stay awhile, and learn the truth... |
