And yes, that is me being a smart-arse (but it is a completely accurate answer). "SQL database" has almost no meaning in a question like that because there are a lot of different SQL databases. DB2, MySQL, Progresss, Oracle, SQL Server could all be called SQL databases.

Of course, the context does tell me that you are probably talking about the SQLite database that the Kobo devices use. In that case, the simplest way to compress it is using my Kobo Utilities plugin in calibre. Other than that, any SQLite database tool will have an option to do it or allow you to run VACUUM.
Thank you. Yes, I did mean the SQLite data as used by Kobo. I just worded my question poorly.

I wouldn't even worry about compress the database myself. If you must do it, then there is http://sqlite.org/lang_vacuum.html

I've been noticing this happening on 3.11.0. The right to left is definitely a factor in some/most of the instances. There doesn't seem to be a pattern otherwise.

I have to find out this, while I don't have any problems,it is always good to have a backup, so gonna try this one because it leaves me some questions (don't meaning you have to answer them) but.
1.How do u make the backup
2.Where to find it ( is it on the computer or stored on the device )
3.How with multiple devices, will one backup not overwrite an other ?
I gonna dive into this.
Maybe I don't have database problems because I have never more then 30 books on the devices, I did make a row in Calibre showing which books I already read, but when I am in my library on the reader and have to turn all the pages with books listed there I always end up by opening one by accident, setting it to 1% read or so.
Then have to close it,go back to the library, search the book again, without hitting another one while scrolling, press on the one i opened by accident and set it read or unread again..it is so terrible that Kobo don't allow you to do those actions on the tile of the book on the main page.

You need to configure Kobo Utilities (the calibre plugin) to perform the backup. The backup is stored locally on your computer. The backups are named based on their serial number and device type. So I have
Code:
KoboReader-KoboGlo-613A334012940-20140426-133131_CORRUPT.sqlite
KoboReader-KoboGlo-613A334012940-20141007-003337.sqlite
KoboReader-KoboGlo-613A334012940-20141007-003337.zip
...
KoboReader-KoboMini-N7052B4012703-20140515-091112.sqlite
...
KoboReader-KoboReader-000854E57EEE-20141103-211059.sqlite
KoboReader-KoboReader-000854E57EEE-20141103-211059.zip
...
KoboReader-KoboTouch-KG3172104949A-20140421-114540.sqlite
Backups can include both the database and (optionally) various configuration files (the version, affiliate.conf, Kobo eReader.conf, along with the contents of the .adobe-digital-edition folder).

Good idea. I don't have to delete the corrupted backup of this day . (Out of pure laziness, as I know I could write a simple batch to do it without starting calibre.)

I agree, right to left, and it seems selections across more than one paragraph also help killing the database. Have you noticed it, or it is only my imagination?

And 7Zip does better than either. Though I will stick with 7Zip creating .zip archives for compatibility reasons.

I haven't had any problems with the database being corrupted.

And I really don't care too much if it did, I take regular backups and the annotations are stored externally to the database anyways.

If the backup is corrupted, it isn't supposed to be counted as a backup. The backup should be attempted at the next connection on the same day. Are you finding that it doesn't? In any case, I'll check tonight.

Thank you, i did not managed to look at it, sick in bed but I gonna do it.
The most important will be not to accidental delete it again, but just thinking, when u make a backup, put books on it,then set the backup back, it will miss the later added books, it will see those as newly added and update the database ??

I just got my H2O today and can't see reading stats in-book (either for epubs/kepubs). I am using Calibre (with KePub Output & Kobo Touch Extended plugins installed) to sideload kepubs to my H2O.

I can only see reading stats when I go back to the main menu and go to "Extras." Is there a workaround for this?
