I'm so happy hearing about everyone's successes!
![]() I've had a lackluster showing in February, so far, with only 3 books completed. I'm currently in the middle of a fourth that I hope to complete by (or before) midweek, so that I can attempt to finish a fifth before the end of the month. My overall progress is going well, however. ![]() |

I don't put many books into Calibre so I normally take page counts from Goodreads using whatever format is closest to a mass market paperback. I sometimes have to calculate a page count either in Calibre (if it is not a kindle book) or using the average locations/page from all my previous books (14.9).

![]() I've just picked a few Del Rey paperbacks off the shelf (before I gave everything away), counted the characters on a page in those books, and took the average. It was very close to 2400, so that's what I use. My page counts in Calibre are very "paperback sized", so to say; normally the books are within +- 10% of the actual pagecounts, depending on how the paperback is laid out. A real 500 page paperback will end up being 450-500 pages in Calibre. Knowing this, I could get it stuck into the middle, using 2,280 characters per page, but I'm now very used to this 2400 setting. |

Well, I'm on track so far with my goal of 75 books this year. I can't believe I managed my February target with the Olympics competing for my time. I anticipate falling behind during my busy March and catching up over the Spring.

End of the month summary
![]() 4 books read, same as January. Again same amount of pages, around 1400. I'm doing really good on my sci-fi challenge. I read books #1 and #2 of Hitchhiker's Guide to Galaxy but I didn't like it. First book was bad, and the second one made me stop reading the series altogether. I needed a break. I think it will be different with other books I chose for this challenge though. January was almost all 5 ★ reading, but February isn't nearly that good. 2.5 ★ average, with two really bad books, one mediocre, and Good Omens as the star of the month. Anyway, I've read 8 out of 30 books planned for this year, which puts me 4 books ahead of schedule for now. I'm also 500 pages ahead of my challenge. This year has started really impressively. I wonder if I will keep up. ![]() Last edited by Geralt; 02-27-2014 at 11:18 AM. |

25 books (out of the challenged 120) read - 6 books / 5% ahead of schedule. That's a good thing as my current book, Red Mars, is probably going to take a week if not more to get through.
That does include three individually bought and read short stories, but page-wise, as usual, things even out - I'm at ~8500 pages, i.e. 340 pages per book on average. I'm also on track on all reading-related sub-challenges, and managed to be good for the second half of February also as regards buying new books - unless there are super-good Amazon deals today, I'll end the month at eight e-books bought for myself, which brings the total of the year to 18 (my challenge being "no more than 120 e-books bought this year"). In other words... so far, so good! ![]() |

I'm about halfway through Kim Harrison's The Undead Pool, but there's been a change of plans for the next book. To recognize Aaron Allston's premature death Thursday (at the age of 53), I'm bumping his final Star Wars novel, Mercy Kill, to the top of the stack.
The Undead Pool will be book 25/150 for my main challenge, putting me squarely on track for the year. |

I restarted and plan to finish The Great Gatsby today. It was boring, boring boring after over an hour of listening the past 2 days. I read an overview on Wikipedia and started over. Much better.
I'm ahead of my book reading goal at this time (6 books according to Goodreads), but well behind on my short story/novella goal by about 10 pieces. I'm also fairly behind on my owned audiobook TBR goal, but once I finish my current audio, Dead Beat by Jim Butcher, I'll catch up quickly since I own the rest of the Dresden titles. My age-related subchallenge is going marvelously well. I keep clicking away on my series challenge. Roughly one book for each series per month, while I focus on finishing Dresden Files before the new book comes out in May. Last edited by Tarana; 03-08-2014 at 06:28 PM. |

My sub-challenges have essentially been replaced by the 10 I have signed up for elsewhere, but my main TBR challenge is going OK. I have gained 21 books and removed 14, which is a very good reading rate for me.
It's still kind of amazing that I gained 14 books in February (10 paid and 4 free), when it felt like I had a quiet month. At least I have actually read 2 of those 14. My 10 other challenges are mostly on target, too. It's just the newest one that's slightly behind schedule. |
