I'd really like more iPod touch competition, too. I looked into Archos devices long before I considered an iPad or touch, but they seem like more trouble than they're worth.

I realise we're derailing the thread but I did a bit more digging and the Samsung's going to come with a micro SD slot, so you could add another 32 GB. Specs at the bottom of the link:

Tubemonkey said the same type of thing I thought. I had looked and looked for a portable PDA replacement (since no one makes them any more), and ended up with an iPod Touch, then later gave that one to my husband, and got the 4G for myself. I also got an iPad.

I've enjoyed the games, etc., and other cool apps. The new Samsung 4 or 5 inch models look great, but unfortunately, Android still lacks some of the same great apps (SkySafari, Plants vs. Zombies, etc.) that are available for iOS. At least there is a Kindle4Android app. I don't read much on the iPod or iPad, but I like having the option, in an emergency. I have the 3G iPad, so I also have GPS, which is nice for vacations, etc. It looks like the new Samsungs have GPS, too, which solves that problem.

Apple is really pi**ing me off with their attitude. I can't understand why they think they deserve 30% just for hosting a free app. If they'd just let people install their own apps, that would solve the whole problem.

If they keep this up, and the new Samsungs work as well as they sound, I'll be buying a couple of them, and getting rid of the Apple devices, I think.

There's a lot of nonsense written about the new Apple conditions. If people use their iPhone or iPad to buy Amazon products then Apple are entitled to take a cut.

Read this article and get a grip on the situation.

Couldn't agree more. That's why I send Dell a monthly check for 30% of what I bought online. Seems only fair since I used the PC they sold me!

Apple can try to take a cut of whatever it wants. I don't have to buy Apple products, though.

We were talking about a situation different from yours. Anyway, it doesnt matter what you're willing to pay if the companies won't make the device.

Devices are multiplying like crazy, actually. I'm waiting for Amazon's Android marketplace, but that's my choice as a consumer. If I were in a hurry, I could buy Android now, as many people are doing.

Apple has built itself a nice ecosystem. It will be interesting to see whether the company has overplayed its hand with this course. As a consumer rather than an Apple stockholder or employee, I'm not emotionally or financially invested in Apple's future, though.
