When you access your existing Kindle library, would the previously defined collections still work?

If you create a new category in Duokan, will Duokan mess up your collection when you switch back to original Kindle firmware?

TIA.

Seems to be Duokan is still very beta
This did happen due to some of the alphabet handling I hope will be fixed soon.
Btw. all the 12XX are unstable, and on K3 - a new upgrade system over network, did set mine back to a pre-12XX release. I find it sad that the DXG lack wifi or SD memory card.

yes, just hit the return key

regarding the comment about collections and folder aboves: kindle's collection system is pretty bare-bones. all it does if form a list of pointers to the locations to your books, so if you ever move that book, say to a new folder, the Kindle drops that title from your collection. this needs fixed by Amazon imo, pretty dumb coding.

for using Duokan and Kindle OS in harmony here's what i did/do:

1. Organise all my documents & books into subject folders, which Duokan supports making navigation much easier.

2. Doing this for the first time might loose some existing collections in Kindle OS, so i simply make my collections again.

3. Thereafter as long as you don't move files to different directories both OS will be happy

since my earlier posts i've being doing some comparisons on PDF documents in Duokan and the latest Kindle DXG firmware The differences in performance are staggering, especially with large files.

Carl Jung, 'Essays on Psychonalaysis' 8.8M PDF

Kindle OS open time: 20 seconds
Duokan open time: 10 seconds

Kindle OS page turn speed: 5 seconds
Duokan OS page turn speed: 1-2 seconds

In conclusion these guys at Duokan have done some seriously nice work on the PDF renderer...Amazon should hire them because the original firmware just isn't up to scratch.

The image viewer in Duokan is also superior if you, for example, like to read Manga on your DX. The Kindle OS has issues with images overlapping each other, and the overal render speed is yet again superior on Duokan.

For every supposed issue with Duokan I can find you an equal number of problems with Amazon's default efforts.

I've started publishing the Duokan releases with preconfigured english language through my blog ( http://flip.netzbeben.de/2010/11/duo...ish-gui-today/ ). So there should be no more language setting worries. There you'll also find all duokan archives since their first release with an english GUI.

I don't know why I even bother to try the new Duokan versions, but 1225 again is no improvement at all with the missing characters...

As for me it is because I suffer from Obsessive-ROM Updating Disorder (ORD).

This might be a stupid question, but how do I actually add files to Duokan? I tried it with Calibre and nothing seems to come up when I check on the Kindle.

I switched on the option that allows me to see the files that were on the original OS, but is this really what people mean by improved PDF? The text is still headache-inducingly small. I suspect I might be doing something wrong. For what it's worth, I have the six-inch screen.

Well, what do you expect when you display a 14" document on a 6" device?
Of course it is still tiny.
But what IS better in Duokan are the zoom possibilities.

As long as we don't have 14" readers my advice is to stay away from PDF.

I noticed a bug in the 1225 version, if you change the date there it will not be taken to the Kindle firmware, can someone confirm this?
Which makes Duokan completely useless for me.

I went back to a November version (because I cannot remeber which version was the last to work with this issue) and at least now I can change the date...

hmm... think I have discovered another issue in the complex fonts problem. Not sure if they addressed the issue in this version. Experiments with fonts revealed that pictures in Epub have a dependency to which font you use ? ( why should that matter ??)

? you mean it does not update the hardware clock ? Amazon show a different time then Duokan, but this seem a bit odd, like there may be some update problem in Amazon firmware too...

Yes.
I had to reset my Kindle, after that the date was back to 2010-07-31 like always.
So I went to Duokan 1225 and switched the date back to the actual date. Back to Kindle, opened a collection, went back to home screen, and the collection was at the end of all collections (means the date was wrong).
I might have to explain that I don't get my Kindle to connect to my WLAN, so I can't get the date/time from there).
I thought I messed something up on Duokan, so I went back there, but Duokan had the correct (actual) date.
Nothing I tried worked, Kindle stayed on the wrong date.
I removed Duokan and reinstalled a November version, went back to Duokan, went to the date, it showed 2010-07-31, so now Duokan got the date from the hardware clock. Usually an update of Duokan does NOT change the clock.
After changing the date back to the actual date it was fine in Kindle too.

At least you have something to adjust Just tried on a DXG - and there are no clock settings in Amazon. ( get time with 3G ) - but that is somewhat useless as most of the time, I will not have 3G. In Duokan, you may set it - someodd issue with the year settings - skip first number, and turn up the hundreds - it roll over from 19 to 20 and to 21 A bit quicker to set .. Yes, it was screwed up when I returned to Duokan. Hmm...

They have fixed some previous issues, and now I could add the AmazonKindle contents.
Else, the representation of the font-table for "latin" languages like german, also affect PDF, notes, Dictionary. (Have reported it.) ( I wonder if they have used extended codes as markers of some kind during layout - as I had some Chinese turn up as those character we are missing )

Time settings:

I think they use Unix time, that is a counter/number from 1970.. My guess is that the Amazon software do the time-"stuff", while Duokan simply read the time and adjust their own settings in a relative way. If so, get the time correct in Amazon mode, then adjust Duokan.
