Heh ... at my law school graduation people were pretty good about remaining quiet during the presentation of the diplomas. That was until one graduate came up to get hers, and then all of us students stood up and started going nuts, which naturally caused the audience to stand up and go nuts as well.

It was a really good feeling. She had severe Cerebral Palsy, and it was amazing how hard she worked despite the handicap. I still remember telling her that it just blew me away that she could wear these incredibly high heeled shoes and sort of jerk and totter along on them, while if I had tried to wear those things, I would have been flat on my nose within about three steps.

Sometimes it's fun to break the rules, especially when it's spontaneous.

And sometimes, some people clearly deserve better than the rules allow.

agreeing with Lazy Scott, those are the rules that SHOULD be broken, and how fantastic it is to be able to share the back story on such deserving attention

Another congrats to the PilotBob family! I've got one graduating from high school next year, and the other just entering HS.

We had a similar situation at my high school graduation. The CP student got a standing ovation when he rolled up the ramp to get his diploma. (Which seems rather ironic, now that I think about it.) But he was a popular guy, very friendly, and deserved the attention.

We had few enough students (and hence parents) that we were allowed to clap and whatever for each student anyway-- the noise typically had died down by the time the next student was up. This guy was one exception. The other was a guy who was very friendly and well-liked, but had really had a hard time scholastically. I don't know if he had any particular learning disabilities, but he was ecstatic to be graduating, and it was contagious.

I skipped my undergraduate and master's graduations. I suppose I'll at least go to my hooding if I get through this doctorate thing.

Congratulations! That's one of those things that really shouldn't be that difficult but always takes a really long time.

My washing machine still hasn't achieved that and I've been living here 18 months. After about the fifteenth attempt I gave up, and decided that that rocking during the spin cycle was an entertaining feature rather than a worry. As it's under the draining board, I have to make sure that I clear the draining board before I put the washing machine on so that my crockery doesn't fall off. It only took 3 broken cups before I worked that one out

The leveling legs on appliances are simply just bolts. If they were smeared with oil or grease, vibration will make them turn and they will go off level.
The trick is to jack up the machine just enough to remove the legs, one at a time, take it out and add a nut with identical thread. When the machine is set down. level it an then lock the nuts against the machine, that will prevent further disleveling.

That's a good idea which I will try next time. My problem is that I live in an old house with uneven floorboards. The washing machine lives under the counter, so while it might be level when in the middle of the kitchen floor, once put back into place, it goes all wonky. It is fine just now because we had a new kitchen installed recently and the machine was leveled by the installers.

I also have the uneven floor problem - added to which the kitchen is small and the space for the washing machine is right in the corner. We celebrated when we managed to get it into the space! But I will try that suggestion next time I move the washing machine.

I had a problem with my new washing machine jumping about when I first installed it. It did it for about 4 weeks (I live alone so that is 4 washes, hmmm maybe that is why I live alone lol) until I realised I hadn't removed the shipping bolts

My sister had the same problem. Their front-load washer danced all over their utility room so they called for service. Seems the delivery persons only deliver and don't give any instructions on installation. Cost her $100 to get the bolts removed and told to read the manual. That's what the manual is for.

WDE.

My Sears delivery guys did the installation for me (it's listed as part of the delivery). I was glad not to worry about it!

Mine was installed and worked perfectly I had no complaints then. It was included with the delivery, and they even switched it on and started it up to make sure everything was ok. Unfortunately I've moved house 3 times since then and no longer have a flat floor. It's still quieter than the washing machine in the flat upstairs, which I'm convinced is going to appear in my living room one day
