I'm playing with a new toy.... "Sugru!" It's a soft sillicon rubber that can be easily formed into almost any shape, stick things together, protect stuff, decorate, repair, customize, etc. It cures over night into a flexible, waterproof rubber.

One of the most famous fencing equipment suppliers, 'Leon Paul' of London, is selling a weapons grip that is customizable using Sugru (for big money,) so I thought I'd give the stuff a try with a grip I already have. This stuff is as easy to use as Play-Doh, and can be formed into a very detailed custom handle. I molded some around the grip of my epée last night, wrapped my hand into the sugru and gave a gentle squeeze, and this morning I have a custom-formed grip! Yippee!

@ Stitchawl: Just noticed your sig. Nice! Only other place I've ever come across that line is Yes Minister. (Latin wasn't part of our school curriculum). Who guards the guards, is that right?

Well, I just removed one of my cats from my keyboard (for the 4th time in the last 10 minutes) so I could type this. Came back from a drive about half an hour back. I do that sometimes when I'm really annoyed or frustrated. I find driving in moderate to heavy traffic actually relaxes me. I get it all out of my system by swearing at idiot drivers (of which there are plenty in our city) around me.

Now I have dishes and laundry to do. And after that I'm going to format my laptop. Had a bad malware attack and I'm not sure its all gone! Woe is me.

In a sense, yes. I believe it actually translates to;
'Who watches the watchers?' We didn't have Latin in my school either, not that I would have opted for it at the time anyway. I didn't discover its value until many years after my schooling.

I did have Latin at school, but after sending the teacher home with a nervous breakdown (I had some help from the other classmates) I decided enough was enough...

Well condidering her favourite joke was "Caesar adsum iam forte" (Caesar had some jam for tea) she pretty much deserved it.

Indeed -- that's a great advert! If you google a bit, there is info out there for how to make homemade "sugru". It consists of silicone putty and a thickener - corn starch. I haven't played with either, but I liked the idea so much that I saved the info about the faux version. Ahh, there it is. Google for "sugru substitute". Unless it has been removed from the web since I took photos of the pages!

Wonderful!! Thanks for the heads-up! "Sugru" is rather expensive, and now having used it to make the epée grip (which turned out better than I EVER expected,) I can see dozens of uses around the house for this stuff! It will certainly take its place right beside duct tape and WD-40 in the home handyman's tool box!

P.S. Some differences between the homemade (Oogroo) and the bought Sugru:

1- Made from inexpensive and easily obtained materials.
2- Easy to work and mold into forms.
3- Will set up quickly at any thickness.
4- Can be mixed in any color.
5- translucent structures possible for lighting aplications.
6- slightly more flexible than Sugru.

Advantages of Sugru:

1- Much milder fumes, can be easily used indoors.
2- Cures to a harder rubber.
3- Gives more working time.
4- Already mixed.
5- Somewhat easier to smooth.
6- Carves easier than Oogoo.

I have had a terrible history with non-English languages, but I did reasonably well in Latin. It didn't hurt that the teacher was very good at teaching, as well as being a pretty decent and fun guy.

His favorite phrase was, "O, my son of the good war!" (O, fili mi boni belli!)
