Unfortunately, the next day after I had walked for several hours, I lost signal, and found myself on the wrong side of a mountain and no idea which direction I needed to take to get back to the road, and the sun going down. The next morning I went up the mountain, got signal again, and could figure out a good route through the jungle to get back. Not much visible terrain when there is so much jungle cover... But now the messy part... cleaning all my equipment for the next time the road gets lost!

glad to see you have resurfaced! I've been on many SAR missions for people in your situation, glad you were prepared, but it was more like three days not one!

I went to the doctor a few weeks ago and, while there, was told that my blood pressure was a bit elevated. I was told to take my pressure a couple of times a week and let the doctor know if it was particularly high (they have a machine in the doctor's waiting room that gives you a print out). I thought it was high this morning (180/120) so I called them from work. On the list of things that you don't want to hear from the triage nurse, "Woah, you'd better get in here to see the doctor right now" is pretty high on the list. To cut a long story short, I've been booked in for an ECG and blood tests, signed off work until the pressure drops and prescribed some medication (and, of course, been told to lose weight, drink less and exercise more).
please listen to your health care providers! this situation has taken way too many of the men in my family!

Well, three days, but only two nights. What's one more night when backpacking? I remember several times, at the end of a week or two-week backpacking trip in the Adirondacks of NY State, the White Mountains of New Hampshire (my favorite playground,) and the Green Mountains of Vermont when approaching the trailhead where the car was parked, turning around for an extra night or two just cuz we didn't want to come out of the woods. In fact, when finishing up a two-week canoe trip in Parc La Vérendrye Wildlife Reserve with my ex-wife, we were in sight of the boat dock at Park Headquarters, stopped, took stock of our food situation, turned the canoe around and stayed out for another four days, eating fish for lunch and dinner! I never want to get back into 'civilization' after being in the woods!

I almost never want to come in either, but coming from a long line of SAR people and having beat those principals into the heads of all progeny and friends, I know if I do not turn up within a certain time frame efforts will be launched to begin looking for my sorry ass. so if for nothing else but a sense of duty I emerge when I say I will

I know, terribly conformist of me and all

Always had everything on hand to cover emergencies though. This was before the luxury of satnav, so I just had to rely on my compass and map .
My husband chuckles because I carry an emergency waterproof stuff sack that contains long undies, wool socks, food, fire starting stuff, compass, knife, and water purifying tablets.

Be very careful - that level of BP can be very dangerous. If there is no physical cause, it may be a warning to re-evaluate your stress level(s).
You really need a new job

Tearing myself away from my new favourite game Banished (a city builder without a war element), it came out earlier this week and it's highly addictive, though I still have to build a successful town.

Now I have to decide what to watch tonight. Last night I finished the Inspector Morse series. So now I can either go on with Lewis or start at the beginning with Midsomer Murders.

Thanks dreams. I think it may have dropped a little, but the breathlessness and light-headedness tells me it's still high

So sorry, I thought the medication would have brought it down some by now. Have they checked it again?

I flipped channels once and stopped on Storage Wars. You are right, I was pulled in and just seemed to stay watching it. I have no idea why, as it is not the type programs I normally watch.

Thanks. Unfortunately though the party was canceled. The guy who organized it had a family emergency. He did however say he was going to organize another one soon.

Be very careful with these symptoms - report them fully to your doctor's office. Try to relax ... yeah, right, easy, huh?

Mindless TV shows can help to keep you from obsessing on your BP ...
