I was going to clear that list with my no-rush credits... Also some are "price set by the publisher" so I can't see them coming down anytime soon (they're not the top of the best-selling list kind of stuff).

What I normally do with the agency books anyway is that if a 2nd-hand paper copy is available significantly cheaper then I'll go for that instead of the ebook. If it's not an agency book then I buy the ebook regardless of availability of a cheap 2nd-hand paper copy. It's my small, and probably quite pointless, protest at agency pricing What's their excuse for bumping up some ebooks from £6.99 to £9.99?

Ouch! I've bought just one book over £5 so far this year. Even over £2 makes me think twice.

I have to REALLY want it to pay £9.99! And with 800+ books in my TBR, I find it hard to think of any book I want that much.

Yep. $20 for a book is way past what I would pay.

I'm having a rethink right now as some are books that I randomly came across thinking I'd quite enjoy them and some are stuff I really want to read (typically the latter are the ones with the largest % increase of course )
I might just spend my credits on music instead

I use ereaderiq.com to track things I'm interested in on Amazon and it sends me an email when the price reaches a point that might interest me.

US: ereaderiq.com
CAN: ca.ereaderiq.com
UK: uk.ereaderiq.com

While it's not that secure they just link based on your email and nothing else (no password) But then it's just a list of books with a price point at which to send an email to you about the deal. It's worked for me on many occassions. Every time I update my TBR list for the year I put the books I need on it.

Oh I've been using ereaderiq too for years... it's where I store my wishlist. Unfortunately prices have been going totally the wrong way recently I firmly lay the blame on the return of agency pricing in the UK (and special message for Vintage: you are a right bunch of greedy sods)

^Agreed. Most of what I read takes a while to go on sale here in Canada. Most of the books I want to read are at least $9.99CDN and many are $13.99CDN or even higher. The fact that the Canadian dollar is worth almost nothing globally again isn't helping but increase prices here more.

It's why I stopped buying books for the most part. Especially if I've got anything over 10 or 20 books purchased that haven't been read. That's a good chunk of wasted money.

The pound sterling has weakened against the US dollar considerably in the last few months plus the increased VAT may have caused some pricing adjustments.

£9.99 = $14.44 which is what many bestselling books are priced in the US.

The VAT increase came in long before the books shot up in price (most did around October). Also AFAIK UK books aren't based on USD price converted to GBP.

I seem to remember there wasn't a significant price increase on Amazon when the VAT was raised. They may no longer be willing to absorb the loss.

As for the currency, the pubs may be looking for more uniformity in price across the oceans. I've noticed price increases in Canada and Australia. Did you happen to notice the cost of the £9.99 book in the US?

That's quite possible - if only it were just one book that'd gone up to £9.99! Had a nosey on the .com site and these are showing at $14.50.
Annoyed that I didn't just buy them months ago...I thought I was being sensible as I wouldn't be reading them straight away.

I've reshuffled my planned purchases and ordered some of the agency stuff as 2nd-hand pbooks for just over £2 each and fulfilled by Amazon so getting no-rush credits for these (and then if we all do that, the pubs can wonder why both their ebooks and pbooks sales are decreasing )

I suspect that I will be buying rather more expensive books than usual on 31st January, but perhaps enough daily deal bargains will come along before then.
You will feel a bit bereft, I'm sure. Drives me nuts that they have such a tight timeline on those no-rush credits. I WANT to use them for series that I'm reading, but I don't want to get them until I'm up that far. I'm rather played out on wishlist items as well (thanks Kobo, you've been generous!). Plus, since I'm going to be getting a new kindle with that buyback, I'll have Kindle Unlimited for free for a month.

In a hurry to spend no-rush credits. Ironic. Good luck

I get anxious if I haven't acquired any new books for a while. It's ridiculous, really. I haven't bought any books since the 8th, and I feel like I ought to buy something even though I don't need anything and nothing on my wishlist is on offer.

Also, I really need to check my library more often. Two of the most expensive ebooks I bought last year are borrowable for free, I noticed when I checked their ebook catalogue a few days ago. I even waited months for their prices to drop.

I've managed to find a few freebies that seemed ok in the last few days (they might turn out to be a pile of dross of course) as I'm still holding off planned purchases until the 31st (last day to use some of my credits) on the off-chance that I might want something from the daily deals.

My last 'real' purchase was on January 1st and it was a wishlist book on offer
