You don't say! Goodness knows it would be a surprise to me if were true. But, we know she's just delusional. Yeah, that's it. She's delusional.

Wait. If its not listed, should she be allowed to vote that way?

Is there a mod who could 'erase' her vote?

Having to let off steam. I was called into my manager's office and told that my contract which was due to end in December is being terminated at the end of next week because of the economic situation.

Fair enough, as a contractor that's what I'm there for. But the discussions about this have been going on for several weeks and no-one gave us any hint that there might be a problem, so we haven't had the opportunity to look around for other options. I'm lucky - as I'm crucial to the project I'm working on I've got 2 weeks notice, but other people are going this week. One person took holiday last week. If he'd had any hint of what was happening he wouldn't have done that.

I accept no job security as the price I pay for being a contractor, but I would have liked to be warned that this was a possibility so that I could review my options earlier. All the information we've been getting recently is about how well our business has been doing, so we've had no warning signs.

Wow, that's really bad! Do you have any idea of what you might do next?
I hope they give you a compensation for the breach of contract!

I'll send you some energy if you need some

Thanks!

As a contractor I've done short term work for a lot of people and agencies in the area, so it's a case of going back to them to find out what's available now. And then keep going until I get something else

It's a process I'm used to, but had hoped not to be doing again for a while!

ruth1304 - I'm so sorry you have to go through this. My husband works with contractors as a project manager. He hates it when the bureaucrats higher up treat his contractors with so little respect. He has had to let contractors go recently because of the economy, too, but he always tries to give them a heads up well before the guillotine falls. Good luck to you. I'll keep my fingers crossed that something comes your way soon.

Thanks for the good wishes. I think the funniest bit was in the meeting where they announced to everyone that contractors would be leaving the team, which was followed by stunned silence. Managers then asked for suggestions as to how to improve staff morale!

So, someone out there has no sense of timing. Well, that completely sucks. I hope you are able to get into a contract with a company that has a bit more respect for its contractors (like giving a hell of a lot more notice).

As to what I am doing Right Now, I am on the fixing end of something really annoying. My friend says her laptop won't boot and is making a nasty squealing noise. I'm figuring imminent hard drive failure.

So, she brought it over to me yesterday, and so now, of course, it's behaving like a perfect little angel. Very likely I'm going to get her a new boot drive anyway, and probably stick Windows 7 on it.

Pisses me off when the problem won't reproduce itself while you're working on it. Makes fixing it rather difficult.

That is crappy and I feel for you and I can understand since I was laid off last march. I went back to my business but clients are pretty shy and those you find want to take advantage, getting everything fer nothin'...

The whole mess stinks... wishing you luck!
