Wish I was doing what Stitchawl was doing instead of cleaning the Crystal out of the vacuum cleaner.

No, just a big, hairy one who sheds constantly. I think she has an even greater aversion to heat than I do. As cold as it's been lately, she still likes going outside and laying in the yard in the shade. When she's sleeping inside, she always picks the coldest spot in the house. I always suspected I might have a bit of Inuit in my DNA, but she's something else. She must have antifreeze in her blood. What fun and exciting things? My wife uses the car to go to work, and my son uses her truck because his is broken down and he can't afford to fix it. I'm housebound. A shut-in. |

That's for up and forward. I need one for forward and to the left or right.... They actually do make such a thing, but the quality of the glass is pretty poor. On the other hand, there is a high quality 90° angle viewfinder attachment, but that's for looking downwards when shooting forward. Not what I need to out-smart my wife. Actually, I don't think anything exists that would out-smart my wife... She's the brains of this outfit. I'm just the pretty window dressing...

I picked up a rather old scooter when we first moved back here, a 2006 model 110cc Yamaha. After renting a new model 125cc Honda while on the island last week, it convinced me that we we'd be better served with a more powerful bike with some more modern conveniences. So the old one will go on the market tomorrow, selling for about $400 to recoup some of the damage I did today paying for the new one. This new Honda is a bit larger so I was able to add a rather large back top box which will make shopping easier too. That said, my wife is an older model too. Hmmmm....... ![]() Stitchawl |

Pffff.
It's been a very stressful six months. Not only the fire next door but also Family Stuff (too complicated to explain here). This week especially has been an emotional roller coaster. But with the things that have happened today it looks like we will "win". We're not there yet but things are looking up. I also think the Family Stuff stress is the cause of my eczema. I hope everything will be over soon so we don't have anything to do with that side of the family anymore! I knew that that side of the family had tendencies towards soap operas, but what has happened in the past six months is even worse than a telenovela! |

How (fiendishly) clever are cats? Too clever for their own good?
![]() Well, last week we got a large cardboard box delivered to the house (contents irrelevant to this story). I unpacked the contents and left the box, with its crumpled brown paper packing material alone for a few minutes. When I returned I found Sammie 'nesting' in the box - where she's been non-stop for the past couple of days - leaving only for quick trips to the food bowls and litter box - then slam back into the box into her nest. Stella occasionally annoys her and initiates a round of "patty cake" paw boxing - but Stella thinks the box is boring. So tonight I was checking my email when Sammie runs into the room, screams at the top of her lungs, and runs out. In the past, this was her subtle signal that she wanted to play with the cat dancer toy and wanted me to get it out and make it dance. So tonight I get up, grab the toy and head into the living room - where Sammie has returned to her box. Waving the toy around the floor had no effect. But if I waved it over her head, she would sit up and attempt to grab it - WITHOUT exiting the box. How smart is that? I'm being trained to bring everything to her - while she stays in her box. Smug little princess! ![]() [Nobody tell her the box is going out this weekend ... to the great recycling bin ... listen for frantic wailing] ![]() |

What am I doing right now? Basking in the glow of success, and bragging about it!
Today, five weeks after picking up a fencing foil again for the first time in more than 25 years... today... today ![]() ![]() These were all foil matches. I didn't do nearly as well in epée. The Fencing Master beat me 5-3, and an Italian fellow named Marco beat me 5-4. I managed to win all my other epée bouts, but it was more reflex speed than thought-out skill. I've still go a ways to go before I'm ready for the Olympics... BUT I AM BACK! Stitchawl |
