I hate being sick. I'm so over it. Day 6 and I don't want to feel this lousy anymore. I hate cough drops. I hate hot beverages. I hate not even feeling good enough that I can read a book.

How hard is it for the morons who deliver Amazon packages to deliver to the right building?

I was so tempted when Amazon delivered a package to my porch to keep it. Sadly despite my dislike of that neighbour, I delivered the package to their porch.

As for my dislike? One example is that on several occasions when the recycle bins have been emptied and I have been moving them back into the shed, they have stopped by and emptied their recycling into a bin and then wandered off. When I politely suggested that helping to move the bins back into the shed would be helpful, the comment that it's not their job was made. The same jackass pops up at most of the strata council meetings to whinge about things that they want done or that are not being done to their satisfaction yet never seems to show up when various volunteer work parties are planned.

Occasionally the company I work for has to make an order through Amazon, when our usual suppliers are out of stock etc. One order for 10 Macbook pro laptops hadn't been received, despite the order details on the website saying they had been delivered.

After many hours walking about the company site (multiple buildings) checking the local reception desks, the delivery was found dumped in a kerb-side grit (road salt) box.

Yesterday I got an Amazon (both sold & shipped) order of Nespresso pods, packed in one of those Tyvek mailers. Presumable an anvil was positioned on top of it in the truck, because the box had been crushed and the pods were smashed beyond any possible use. Insult on top of injury, it took three attempts to get my money back. The return portal said it was non-returnable/refundable, even though I picked damage. The phone call I requested said the same, after I had worked my way through the questions. My chat with their AI bot finally resulted in a refund.

Observations:
  • Clearly it's Amazon's policy to make a return as difficult as possible, so people will give up. And if you can't return a ruined item when it was their fault, what is a good justification?
  • I used up a promotion and didn't get that back.
  • The AI bot needs a ton of work before it could be mistaken for an actual breathing person, but I guess I was lucky that I picked the right words to trigger the response I wanted.

I once made the mistake of ordering wafer cookies in the monthly Amazon order, alongside boxes of wet cat food. Instead, I got wafer cookie crumbs. I'm sticking to the regular grocery stores for those from now on.

Do you find any advantage at for ordering at Amazon rather than through Nespresso directly? I have never seen any difference in price, and for me, Nespresso orders easily get free shipping, arrive within two or three days at most, and come with tasting samples and recycling bags. I've even stopped driving up to the one mall in my area with a Nespresso store to buy them in person.

Silly, silly Issy. They don't need to make the AI better. They will just keep on using humans who are more and more ignorant, incompetent and illiterate, until even the worst chat-bot seems the more desirable choice. They are very close in many cases now.

A couple of days ago I treated myself to a new pair of Dr. Martens boots (1460 in crazy horse leather). But now I have to break them in.

I've got insoles and that has helped with most of the movement (a size smaller is too small, then my toes are up against the front). Most of the wearing in is stretching the leather, it's a bit tight on the top of my feet. The biggest problems is that my heels are very narrow, so with any shoe I buy I move around a lot. With DMs it'll cause blisters. Once the leather at the back of the heels softens with wear it'll be fine, but until then I'll put sports tape (similar to moleskine tape, but a bit tougher) on my heels, today I have triple layer. I might go and buy the Dr Martens socks with thicker fabric on certain parts of the sock to help with breaking in new shoes.

I'm going to do my chores with my boots on and see how long I can stand to wear them. I hope I can wear them when viewing houses next week, but I'm bringing my sneakers with me just in case.

Tongue pads can help too, more so with laced shoes than slip-ons.

Hm. None of my cats has ever had any sort of an internal clock. They sleep when I sleep and ask for attention/service when I'm awake. I guess the reason for that is a complete lack of fixed daily routine on my part - I don't even have a fixed sleep/wake cycle, sometimes I sleep during the day and sometimes at night, the length also varies considerably. Being unable to anticipate any fixed feeding/playing times, my cats know that the only clue is whether I'm awake or asleep, and behave accordingly.

That's also one of the reasons why I will probably never be a dog owner - I've read that dogs need fixed routine, while cats seem to do very well without one.

They also make silicone heel cups, which might help.
