Yesterday I got a bit frustrated. Recently I got a bunch of cross stitch kits. I use an app to mark off my stitches, which means I need to get the paper patterns scanned. So yesterday I got all the kits and took out the patterns. But I always hate the packaging of kits; a plastic bag where the flap is glued. I've had bags tear because the glue is so strong, or tear because it wasn't strong enough to handle taking the kit (pattern, floss, fabric, needle) in and out several times. The glue always sticks to the paper when you take the pattern in or out.

But yesterday I had a light bulb moment and I've just ordered ten zippered mesh bags (currently have eight kits) so each kit can go into it's own bag. I need to get labels to write the name of the kit on. But I hope this will work better than the original packaging. Added bonus is that the bags are all the same size so the smaller kits won't get lost in between the bigger kits. Now I need to get a bag/container to keep my kits in.

How much do those bags/kits weigh? I wonder, maybe you should look into something like this: https://www.etsy.com/listing/8587189...-1&pro=1&frs=1 if those kits are light enough, you could hold them up there. (yes, yes, this is something for my own walls, b/c I'm a Hat Queen--but when Rumple said that about the kits and all that, I was thinking, hey, I wonder if a given pattern/kit could hang up there like that?)

Oh, goody. Another...inquiry from a would-be author...

Sigh.
.

We've had an inquiry and as such, it has no interior email, no questions, nada. What I did receive is a 465-page (!!!) PDF, that's a diatribe against life in general and a recitation of this person's history, starting with the statement that he's a victim of bigotry (specifically, white supremacist racism), and then goes on to illustrate how he's been honey-trapped by all these women over the years, and courtrooms have done weird things to him, and on and on and on. Details things like how his power "mysteriously" goes out when he's researching Canlii.org cases..that kind of thing.

And on and on and, oh, yeah, on?

I really hate it when we get these. it's not...it's not funny to me. I mean I can see how if you'd never had a bad experience around something like this, it might seem a bit humorous, but firstly, you're somewhat up close and personal with someone who has very obvious and unmissable issues. Secondly, we had someone like this--some of you may reall-back in 2011 I think it was, who decided that we'd changed the text of his book (!!!), hopped in his car and drove across three states (Western States, mind you, so not kidding around!) to come "find us" and "make us pay" for what we did. That...was exciting. And yes, we were in a real office at the time, publicly-available info...eeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

And I never really know how to...sort of break it off safely. I suppose we could just quote a million dollars and let it go. That makes me feel like I'm just doing to him what life did to him--blowing him off, condescending and all that. Patronizing which isn't my intent, but I'm not making this cursed book. It's got screaming bad juju all over it.

I hate to...IDK, there's no great way to handle this crap, there really isn't.

sigh.

My parents got their first shingles vaccination on Wednesday, together with their flu shot. My mother is fine, even from the flu shot which usually makes her feel under the weather for a few days.

My father felt crappy yesterday and the arm he got the shingles shot in was painful. Maybe because he recently had a second shingles attack.

Today's mission is to get them to make an appointment for the follow up vaccination.

Just got a text spam coupon code from a local pizza place through what is apparently a third party text spam service. I called them and asked if it was legitimately from them. They said it was, and I asked them to remove my number and stop spamming me.

Any guesses as to what their response was?

I'll give y'all a hint, it was NOT "Sure, we'll make sure it doesn't happen again. Sorry for any inconvenience."

Ask Dad how he feels; I'm going in to get my (FINALLY!) first Shingrix this coming week. (They kept seeing wee rashy bits and wanted to be 100% sure I wasn't relapsing.) Oh, boy. Can't wait. Ha.

You may wish to remind them that the FCC's CAN-SPAM act applies to SMSes.

Today he was feeling a lot better. We did some moving about of heavy boxes and awkwardly shaped artworks and it went fine. He thinks he had more of a reaction than my mom because he recently had shingles again (probably) and his body reacted more to the vaccine.

Mind you, my father rarely has a reaction of vaccinations. Last year he felt crappy for a day or two after the flu shot for the first time ever. And after one of his Covid vaccines he was under the weather for a few days. But that was only once.

My friend who was injured in a fall 4 weeks ago has been moved to a rehab facility. The info we have received is that her eyes are open, but she has not made any "contact" with family or any attempts to communicate. We aren't sure if anyone else can visit her, it's been tough to get any info.

I'm heartbroken for her 3 daughters, mother, brothers, and for the baby grandson who may miss out on knowing her. I know it's too soon to say there is no hope for her to come back. But this was devastating news to get.

Yeah, in my life, I typically have NOT had much in the way of reactions to shots. I've been pretty dismissive of them too (I may rue the day...) but this last pass, the Covid and Flu, same day...while I didn't get horribly sick or anything like that, the ensuing day, holy crapdoodles, I felt like I'd gone 10 rounds with Mike Tyson, quite literally. My entire body, head to toe, had DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness). I felt as though I'd done an hour-long hard workout, after 5 years off. It was...very odd. Can't say I've ever had that before but it was profound in the discomfort category.

Next day, 99% gone. [shrug]. Weird. But I damn sure am getting the Shingrix. NOT doing that again if there's anything I can do to help it. Hell, it's been 9 months and my business is still recovering from those 75-90 days "away" for me. Not to mention how bad the Shingles itself was, never mind what it did to my biz! (And my now life-long addiction to Stroopwaffels. Oh, the humanity...)

Sounds like they didn't actually ASK you to publish their book. I'd just throw it into a "linger for a year and then Trash" folder. Basically ignore it, but maybe not pitch it wholly. Until/Unless they actually ask you to work on it; they say No.

(1) Cut out the original title page and include it. Skip the bother of labelling.

(2) They make ziplock bags in some really humongous sizes. I have some big enough to put quilt parts into. They must be 2 ft or bigger. I wonder if they are cheaper than mesh bags? They're certainly more waterproof!

Hey, BadGood:

Well, in fact, he did ask but happily, our fees were beyond his budget. Oh well, sometimes, you just can't win 'em all. :-) I guess I'll have to hope that I get other business to make that one up.

Ah, that one! I had a special fee when I was doing technical writing depending on who the reviewers were. There was one group that automatically got a doubled fee. It didn't make the process any more enjoyable, but it did compensate me for the annoyance.
