There's two out-of-control wildfires in my province. Rumour is one of them was caused by somebody ignoring a fire ban and burning some tires. Sigh.

Seriously? After a year and a half reading threads like this and you can ask that question???

Sigh. Yes, people are not sensible. They are arrogant a**holes who are sure the rules don't apply to them! And this fire in Halifax is a scary one, though it's by no means the only scary fire in NS, much less Canada as a whole. It's going to be a LONG summer.

I have memories of years back having an idiot shoot at our neighbours' kids. Evidently having your kids playing in a playground in their backyard made a lackwit who saw movement through the bushes and fired several bullets in their direction justified in his actions. His lawyer was also upset that their mum shot the nitwit's truck with a shotgun and was not arrested for attempted murder.

He was attempting to get into the truck at the time. Considering she hit the back end of the truck and not the nitwit, my dad's opinion was that she was not seriously trying to hit him.

Two more wildfires now. One of them is near a dairy plant so there's worries about an ammonia leak.

It's made me nervous enough to make a bag in case I need to evacuate.

Due to an unusual weather pattern, smoke from the Halifax fire should be in the upper atmosphere over us tomorrow.

Make sure you have at least two planned routes out; that your cat carriers are right there and available and all that. I have to do this almost every year (I man, prep for fire evac. Terrifying s**t.)

Make sure you remember skivvies. One year, I forgot mine. (sigh). Remember basic toiletries (anti-stink, mouthwash, all that.)

That's what my go bag is for. I pack my necessities which include a backup set and keep it close to the door so I can grab and go. I've only needed it once since moving to the lower mainland but it was handy to have when the apartment building I was living it caught fire.

Oh, yeah, I had a go-bag too--and still, yes, forgot my skivvies. had taken some stuff out to wash (from the year prior's fire danger) and sure as hell...forgot 'em. '

Now the good news is, skivvies aren't hard to find but still. The very last thing you want to be thinking about, toting cats, litter boxes, litter, go-bags and all that and worrying about your house, is whether your undies have gone walkabout.

A friend of mine from Washington D.C. told me that the smoke from the Shelburne fire is making it hazy all the way over there.
