It's a hamburger chain. I'm not sure where they originated --we only got them here a few years ago. Very good burgers -- makes me hungry thinking about it!

Oooo.... looks like the beginning of a beautiful friendship! I wish I lived closer. The only way I can get a good cheeseburger here is to make it myself. There are plenty of places selling them, but the flavors are just wrong. The meat is 'overworked,' usually egg and breadcrumbs are added, etc., etc. When I first came to Japan, "Carl's Jr." chain was here and I could get a BaconCheeseburger that was pretty good. But I guess the taste wasn't to the local liking, and all their outlets closed up. 'Outback's' makes a nice burger, but again, the flavor is just not right. I guess I'll just have to come and visit you so you can bring me to Five Guys!

They have good fries, too! Come on!

You know what, if you're really going to Retiree City during the holidays, I happen to know they have Five Guys there. You should go.

Wow! I just opened Google Map and there are a bunch of them in that area! Thanks for the tip. We've been making a list of the different foods we want to be sure to eat while there, and this will certainly be one of them! It's funny to think we'll travel 12,000 miles for a cheeseburger! LOL!
So... cheeseburger from Five Guys
BBQ Ribs from Scruby's
Nathan's Hot Dogs at the Mall
LongHorn Steak House porterhouse 24oz.
Behia Cabana for oysters
Key West Asia House for crab...

I'm getting hungry just thinking about it! But first, Saturday night at "El Mustacho" for my birthday dinner and drunk. Besides great Mexican food, they make the very best frozen Margarita by the pitcher, and it's the one night of the year I allow myself to get drunk! My wife will have to wheel me home!

Thanks! I haven't read up on the karma but it sounds good.

I've been to Asia as well. In Hong Kong they try to make a good cheeseburger but the beef just isn't the same... not enough fat perhaps. Very similar in the Philippines; not enough fat cows. America has the best cheeseburgers so far.

I will tell you tho that Japan has some awesome steak!!! Kobe beef... YEAH!

It's cold. I'm craving soups... my soups, to be exact, LOL. Potato Corn chowder with bacon, my chili (which is so not Texan - I add lots of tomatoes and beans, which would get me thrown out of any CASI competition instantly), chicken and dumplings....

Are you a 'floating' dumpling maker or a 'sinking' dumpling maker?
BTW, I think tomatoes and beans belong in chili! In fact, more beans than meat! And spicy enough to melt the Teflon off a pan!

I'm with you on that! Hong Kong is bad, but Thailand is even worse! The beef is just about inedible! Worse than the PI by a factor of 10!

That photo doesn't look fatty enough to be real Kobe beef. The stuff I see in the markets is virtually pink all over, rather than red with white marbling. True Kobe beef is much to oily for my tastes. Give me a good Kansas City Angus T-bone or Porterhouse any day!

Last time I was at the Korean market I went by the food court and ordered some beef tofu soup to go. He gave me a huge freezer container of it, along with the rice and the kimchi and noodles. I ate the sides and the rice, but I had about 3/4 of the soup left over so I put it in the freezer. Last night I thawed it out so I'd have it ready for the upcoming icy day today. It's in the crockpot in the fridge waiting for me right now. It's very spicy, almost too spicy for me, but good.

I'll take a rib-eye... medium cooked with a massive twice baked potato (sour cream, melted cheese, and bacon bits). Check out Izzy's here in the Bay Area - http://www.izzyssteaks.com/

I'm a lazy dumpling maker! I found out a long time ago that the ingredient that makes the dumplings I like the most is the cheapest canned biscuits you can find. You know, the ones that go for like 30 cents a can here in the U.S. Pinch them into thirds and drop them into the boiling broth. They do float...and they end up with the texture that I prefer. Plus that, it's easy. No dough making, which is always nice for the state of my kitchen's cleanliness, LOL.

My chili won't melt the Teflon off a pan, though. I like it mild and tomato-ey.
