A sad mistake. In the civilized areas in the United States that may be true, but on The Continent (and possibly The Rock, I just don't remember)... but on The Continent, "Give me a Martini" will get you a sweet vermouth on the rocks. I shudder to this day. Where I was, the "Gin Martini" was still very sweet. I passed the "dry gin martini" (no caps) and just settled for "can I have some gin, chilled?"

Now, in the less refined areas, "a martini" is more likely to be vodka, and if you're not very vigilent, a pastel or neon color with syrupy-fruity flavors added in.

Brrr...

I think it's very interesting how my drink tastes have evolved since I grew transparent to alcohol.
