I like to read The Phantom Tollbooth once a year; the last time I did so I picked up on a previously unnoticed math-based joke.

@ hidari

Starship Troopers is not banned in Germany.
Its just not available widely as its not supposed to be sold to minors. So you can't just order it on Amazon for example.

A version that is cut is available though and even sometimes shown on public televison.

As for rereading books. for me its the Hobbit, usually followed by LOTR.
Reread Harry Potter recently. Liked it better the second time so I guess this might happen now from time to time.
Also the Ender books are some favorites.

Unfortunately still the paper versions ....

is this because it uses small words?
short sentences??
or do you feel the central argument against unquestioning consumerism should be more accurately directed towards our younger readers?

Well, there are a ton of books I reread every few years - I have a room full of them, but if you mean *all* my life, then I have to say 'Little Women'. Just read it again and I swear that book gets better every time I read it.

Those are the greatest books to re-read -- the ones that keep getting better & better -- or the ones in which you keep discovering new things you'd never noticed before!

When I was a boy I used to reread a lot, as I had more time then money.
I reread lot of times Nine princes in Amber, The Door to Summer, and that great book with "Don't Panic" on the cover

As a grown-up I reread several times Memoirs of Hadrian by Marguerite Yourcenar and High Fidelity by Nick Hornby

Arundel by Kenneth Roberts, my favorite American historical novelist.

Although I have not read any of his books in electronic format. If anyone knows of a source I would appreciate knowing of it.

That's a good one. I still fondly remember one character's description of another as a pig-nut, which is a nut with a shell so hard you need a sledge hammer to crack it, but once you have there's nothing inside worth getting to. I know an assortment of people with heads like that...

I haven't seen any. At some point, I want to find and read _Oliver Wiswell_, told from the point of view of a Tory. The revolution was not universally popular in the colonies, and life must have been interesting for those who opposed it.

Kane and Abel by Jeffery Archer is one of my favorite books. I've been a fan ever since I read Honor Among Thieves. Ulysses by James Joyce is another book I can always turn to.

I have read 'The Lord of the Rings' approximately once a year since I was 12. It is like comfort food now...the familiar words help me sleep if I am sleepless, the phrases bring me to a comfortable place in my head.

I'm not a big re-reader at all (nor do I understand the concept of "keeper" books), but one that I did read again not long ago was William Least Heat-Moon's Blue Highways, which wasn't "dated" at all!
