This is unfortunate as I'd quite like to have text hyphenated rather than justified, but it's less troublesome than the bug which sees text sometimes run off the right-hand edge of the screen...

For ePub, the cybook display what the css says. You will have justified if the css said justify.

Yes, I did, in December 2007. They replied, asking for text samples, got them, and stopped responding.

How often do you propose I should send emails? Once a week? A month? A day?

With most companies I contacted, emailing once was enough and staying in contact wasn't a problem.

This is not entirely correct. You can view "non-english" characters with the html viewer. In order to do that, you will need to convert the "non-standard" characters to html literals. I've been reading html with cyrillic text in it without problems that way.

I'm sorry, I noticed your answer just now. How do you convert the "non-standard" characters to html literals? I tried HTML in UTF-8, in Unicode, and putting information about the charset into HTML, and none of this worked.

I had a similar problem 2 years ago. Turned out that they *did* get my emails and would have eventually gotten around to answer them but the customer is in the dark about whether they even got the mail or not (in times of spam filters and greylisting it's not at all unusual for an e-mail to just vanish into the void).
I suggested they use an automatic answering system (every better ticketing system has that built in) so the customer gets a response that their e-mail arrived and will be dealt with (in case of a ticketing system even with the ticket number so you can inquire later).

html literals are characters expressed by html tags. I'm not familiar with the codes for cyrillic letters but here are a few examples I have stumbled across:
ö = ö
ß = ß
& = &

I assume that for cyrillic characters there are similar html-codes and for literals expressed via these codes you don't need special fonts, codepages, etc.
I am not aware of any program to "convert" cyrillic text into html literals, though. I guess you'd have to look for a program to convert regular text to html which comes from a region using cyrillic letters...

Those are called "entities". I don't think there are named entities for Cyrillic, but there are numbered entites like & #1044; (with no space between & and #). See here for a list

In linux I use "recode", which is as simple as: "recode utf8..html myfile.htm" (that converts from UTF-8 encoding to HTML entities, it converts < to &lt;, & to &amp;, etc. too). It seems there's a Windows port here.
