Amazon discontinuing support for older Kindles in May

I was specifically referring to fixed layout epubs (like comics/manga) sent via Send to Kindle. This month, they started being converted to KFX instead of AZW3 for most devices.

For latest Kindle for PC, I looked at the `My Kindle Documents` folder and the relevant files from Send to Kindle have the `.azw` extension.

.azw and .azw3 (aka kf8) are not the same thing

the .azw file in the _EBOK folders are combined with the other files in those folders (voucher, CR!, etc.) to make up the kfx format books. but an .azw file itself is not the same as an .azw3/kf8 format book

I stand corrected. Thought it was one of those things where it’s azw3 under the hood like the mobi/azw3 dual format where azw3 dual files had the .mobi extension. Since I'm used to seeing .kfx and .azw3 files on the kindle itself.

Kindle for PC has a generic AZW extension on every main book file regardless of the underlying format.

I believe (if not mistaken that 1.17 gave KF8 and Mobi. That may have been the last version to do so when a KFX was available.

Well... I was already planning to buy the new Paperwhite Signature Edition anyway.

I still have a Touch and haven't received the discount coupon yet.

If you received the email, that's all you need. The sale price will show up in your cart.

However, these offers aren't transferable and it you didn't get the email you're out of luck. They're also only one to a customer even if you have more than one qualifying device.

My Kindle Touch got the message and a discount code, that should be equivalent to the email information I got previously. However it's probably not something I'm going to use before it expires next month, since I already have more Kindles than I need and am looking to pare down.

I didn't get the email for my two old K4NTs. I wouldn't have bought a new Kindle anyway; still, it seems only people in a few select countries got both the email and the offer.

Yes, same with my 2012 Paperwhite - no email, no discount.

I understand trade-ins being only available in a few select countries (there’s logistical effort and all that) but you’d think Amazon would want to entice people who have purchased hundreds of ebooks from them over the years to keep doing it, even if they live in less relevant countries. I guess not.

I still see Kindles released on 2012 or earlier on eBay. After May 20, 2026, nobody would buy them since a new owner of the devices can’t even register it?

I have two but i won't sell then for that reason. i'm sure people will but not sure what ebay will do about it.
