At 5:45 AM PST it's +3 C this morning, going up to a balmy +9 C later in the day. This is more like the winter I expect here!
Just a note: tuktoyaktuk in the Northwest Territories had a record high of +2.9 C yesterday. ![]() 'morning all, WDE |

-21 F again this morning. The truck goes in to the dealer at 9:00. The rental gets picked up at 9:30 and with any luck at all goes back this evening. Otherwise, next week. Wind chill this morning was -40 F or C. And as predicted, we're getting freezing drizzle tonight.
Kill me now. Please. |

pshrynk, fear not. I think your weather is moving east.
![]() This morning it is -20C here, a.k.a. "F************!" or -4F. I need a pot of tea. Possibly two. |

I was walking to the Chicago blue line station from the Mercury Cafe last night, Deb. This morning I literally had broken blood vessels in my face from the cold/wind.
So, tonight I'll skip the Belmont Burlesque Revue at Gorilla Tango and just stay home instead. Boring, but at least I might live through the weekend. Though I'm still asking myself, is life worth living without Burlesque Theater? Last edited by Taylor514ce; 01-16-2009 at 05:32 PM. |

However -- you are talking about a good long walk. I walk my dogs, but we do a VERY short walk in this weather! Then I clean up the floor later, but it's worth it. Alternative: that nice warm spa in your building!! Last edited by badgoodDeb; 01-16-2009 at 05:52 PM. |

P.S. Taylor -- the winds are supposed to be less, since noon today .... and the temp is expected to rise 1 degree per hour starting about 8pm tonight. Out here at least -- where "cold" is 10 or 15 degrees lower than your "warmed by the lake" air. Aurora's dinky airport registered the lowest temp around here. We must be in a sinkhole!
PPS Add to the scarf: long johns or some equivalent 2nd layer of garments, both upper and lower. Once it reaches 0 again, I'll dress more normally. But probably not the leather sleeveless attire shown at left. |

The spa is closed, they are redoing the tile. Great timing.
I do the scarf over my face thing but then my glasses fog, which on these sidewalks is a matter of life and death. |

I get the fogged glasses too (or frost, in this weather). I've sometimes been able to tuck the scarf under the glasses, just high enough to cover my nose, and breathing through my nose seems to direct most of the moisture away, but it's generally a lost cause.
![]() I understand people stationed in Greenland generally switch to contacts for this reason, but the idea of the contacts possibly freezing would give me pause.... ![]() |
