I think the reason it's very simple with Kobo is because of the sterling efforts of davidfor with the calibre Kobo drivers. Perhaps the Nook needs a calibre/Nook guru to extend what is possible.

Buttons make in easier to hold a reader in a single hand and turn pages easily. I can leave my thumb on the page turn button and press it when I want to turn the page (this was especially true with the Nook STs sturdier rubberized buttons).

To tap the screen you have to shift your thumb, which upsets the balance being used to hold the reader. That's been my experience.

I've grown used to reading on a touch only device, but it has never felt like an improvement.

Kobo is great for sideloading/hacking/tinkering in general.
No arguments there. Though I do feel like some of the Kobo hacks shouldn't be necessary. Full screen reading and full control for sideloaded fonts should be standard or at least available as options.

Why does Kobo continue to think the big header and footer in Kepub is a good idea? It gets pointed out as a negative in a review of every new device.

It's just updated to firmware version 4.8.11090 - but the "What's New" doesn't actually give any details of what's in it.

This is a bit of pet peeve of mine. Not only did Kobo make no effort over the years to fix the problems full page reading, but the new changes for past page flipping make it eve less practical. (It's impossible to use text selection/dictionary lookup on text on the bottom lines of full page reading, Pressing and holding forces page flipping instead.)

First impressions:

It's a nice incremental upgrade to my Glo HD (which was already one of my favourite readers). The ComfortLight is nice and even, even at high light levels, which sadly isn't true for my Aura One. I like the sleep cover which can be left on and you can still hold it comfortably, though when using it as a "stand" the device wobbles every time you touch it so that's not 100% ideal. I can't see me using all 8Gb (well 6.8) but it's nice to have.

But I'm nearly always very happy when I get a new reader. We'll see how it settles in after more use.

Can you confirm if the touch is infrared or capacitive? I think I read somewhere it was going to be capacitive, but that info is usually left off Kobo's website.

How do I tell that?

Update: So I tried tapping both with a pencil. The Glo HD responds whereas the Clara HD does not. I guess that means the Clara is using capacitive touch. The bezel is noticeably less high.

Is it bigger than Glo HD or smaller?

Is the touchscreen sensitive enough / is it easy to click with the finger on the small number to see footnotes?

On paper Kobos are very good, for everyday use I prefer to use my Paperwhite as I can read footnotes very comfortably while it's almose impossible with Kobos. Does this new ereader fixes that issue?

Thx

This is generally only a problem if you choose to use epub. The target area is much larger with kepubs.

Pretty much the same. It's slightly thinner and slightly less wide, but more or less the same height. I'll post some pictures shortly.
