Maybe you could send one if your surplus Sonys to the person in the what-should-i-buy forum looking for a T2 replacement

I have a working T3 and a T1 that's banged up but usable, and don't plan on acquiring any more anytime soon.
I have way too much other stuff in my life though....

If I had 20 hands I would still have extra eReaders – just too many. Somehow I'll find new homes for many of these. But they'll go out clean, updated and factory reset. So far, I haven't gotten a Sony with a bad battery. I think that's pretty amazing considering that the 505s are about nine years old.

I really like the 505s. And, when using the dark Constantia font, the display is amazing considering the age of the device. I didn't know you could get lighted cases for the 505s (I would have probably been better off not knowing.)

I think he's looking for something newer for his mom. As for having too much "other stuff," I'm not going to get started on my mechanical pencil collection. Nothing special about the ones I have, I just like the older ones (but I inherited this particular "sickness" from by brother). Many of them were made by a Japanese company named Kotobuki (even though they were sold under other brand names). I never heard of Kotobuki, but they hold more mechanical pencil patents than any other company in the world and used to make just about all of the Sanford, Berol and PaperMate pencils – even some of the Pentels and Pilots.

Well, I'm not totally stupid. I finally figured out how the multi-quote thingy works. I think I'll go rest on my laurels for a while.

I was wondering about that. (Not the not stupid part, but the multiple posts when multi-quote could have done part).

Talking about mechanical pencils have you seen this site?

https://hemiwear.com/

I have a collection of these which I have bought through his Kickstarter campaigns - I don't know how this compares with your collection.

I have to admit I have far too many e-readers but I adore them and I love the build quality of the Sony readers especially the early ones.

That's the best case because it actually protects the screen.

I've been told in the past I should use multi-quote but I never really figured it out until I happened to mouse over the "multi-quote" link and saw that (once clicked) it stayed red. It still took me a while to figure out that I had to click all the posts I wanted to respond to first. I thought I could hit multi-quote, hit respond and go find another message to add to it. So I wouldn't be too quick to throw out the "stupid" part of my post.

No, but they look interesting. Mine are just regular mechanical pencils that are no longer sold. One of my favorites is the PaperMate Cassette Advancer Pencil 1000 (that I've dubbed "a pencil with a sentence, not a name"). The cartridge came with 12 leads and an eraser (both of which can be refilled without buying a new cartridge – which are now hard to find now). These cartridge pencils (this particular cartridge was patented by Kotobuki) with varied features were sold by a few companies. Berol, Sanford, Papermate, Pacer (Australia), Platinum (Asia), Scripto and Shaeffer. (These are all the brands I've discovered so far.) Some of these pencils have plastic ends (but metal "pipes" or "sleeves"). Some had plastic clips, most had metal. Some had spring tips and/or retractable sleeves (so it didn't harm your pocket). All feel a bit different when using. And that's just one line I like to collect.. What's odd about the PaperMate Advancer is that, unlike the PaperMate Pacer Executive (also pictured below, I don't own one of these) is that the "Advancer" doesn't self-advance, even though it looks just like the Pacer Executive that does self-advance. The Pacer also has a retractable sleeve, unlike the Advancer.

Sorry for rambling. Another "sickness." (I also do patent searches, trying to pinpoint when these pencil features first appeared.)

Should mention, these PaperMate Advancers can be found on Amazon, eBay or via Montgomery Pen.

Well guess what? Walmart is going to sell KOBO ereaders then start their own ebook store to compete with Amazon. I am so excited for I am buyig one even tho I need another ereader like I need a hole in the head!

I love the idea that there's going to be more competition. I'm kind of tired of Amazon taking all the business – and it's going to be great to be able to physically handle a Kobo before buying one.

An eink screen is not the same thing as an LCD screen.

I acquired my first ereader only two years ago, after thinking about it approx three years. I was very hesitant because I tend to prefer multi-purpose devices, whereas ereaders are a good example of a mono-purpose device. Eink is good for static content, text that does not move. That's it. No video. Pictures are black-and-white, which sounds silly in XXI century.

But then I bought an ereader anyway and I noticed what eink screens are worth. The difference of the impact from reflected light (as in eink screen) versus a dynamic light source (LCD screen) is noticeable. If you have lots of reading to do and you care about your eyes, this point cannot be underestimated.

And different screen sizes serve different purposes. Small is portable. Big is more appropriate when you have professional needs. It's possible to edit videos on a mobile phone, but on a desktop with a UHD monitor you can move better with the flow of your work, you can be more sure of your result and you get there faster.

Same with eink: Small is portable, but having the opportunity to see two or even more columns/pages/apps side by side is next level, absolutely necessary for professional research.

I have a Pocketbook Touch HD with 6" screen which can, with some fiddling, (turn horizontal and/or zoom to a part/section) accommodate almost any weird pdf files. Then I have Inkpad 2 with which it's possible (again with some fiddling) to conveniently see the full page in (almost) any weird pdf file. Next I am thinking of acquiring an ereader where I could see two pages side by side of hopefully any pdf file, i.e. it must have at least a 10" screen.

Where I live, both Kindle and Kobo are minimally available. I'd say that globally the competition (Pocketbook, Onyx, Bookeen, Remarkable, ...) is already there, but the makers have as if divided the world among themselves, so within specific regions there is no competition.

Similar not case integrated lights on Amazon and ebay but per reviews the plastic in them scratches too easily. Also a PITA as not fastened to the reader or cover. Need 3 hands.

I know you were talking about something different. But the item in the picture I posted is all connected. The light panel and ereader are both connected to the case. It is weird, but kind of neat too.

I wish they still made ereaders with the build quality that Sony has. I guess the Voyage is close.
