This is not my thang. It is so much not my thang that I posted it on the Media Deals thread, thinking that it must be a video of some kind. Thanks to library addict for informing me that it probably was not a video, but an audiobook of some kind.

I wouldn't call it a recommendation. I haven't read the book or heard the audiobook, but I vetted both (especially the ebook) very carefully.

I was somewhat familiar with the Kursk accident, however. It seems like there was another, similar, Soviet submarine tragedy during the Cold War days, but I've forgotten the details. I don't think that all lives were lost in that accident, though. In fact, I've forgotten the details about the Kursk accident. I'll probably Wikipedia both of them.

Of course, the U.S. wasn't immune to submarine accidents, either, in which sailors lost their lives. But I don't think that we have ever lost a nuclear submarine, (like the Soviets did with the Kursk). In part, this was due to the U.S.'s much more rigorous standards for construction, maintenance, repair, etc. of submarines in our nuclear fleet, I think.

Some of you may be interested in this fact that I got from Wikipedia also. I don't remember it being mentioned in the book description, but sometimes I don't read much of them.

Under "In popular culture":
Kursk, an upcoming film directed by Thomas Vinterberg and starring Colin Firth and Matthias Schoenaerts, based on Robert Moore's book A Time to Die, screenplay by Robert Rodat.

The USS Thresher out of Portsmouth, NH, was the first nuclear submarine to be lost at sea, with more fatalities than the Kursk - the most fatalities of any submarine disaster ever.
