And how are they going to filter? Reading all the books? Or using those tags that authors and publishers put on them? It's a lost battle. People complain about the tag the publishers apply (or not) to book, but later they want the shops to filter using those same crappy tags.

When they are uploaded there should be a questionnaire to figure where the book goes. I take multiple surveys a day so I know it can be done. If Kobo had a opt in for those type of books by having prove their age it would probably have save them the trouble they have now.

Almost every book on my wishlist has been pulled.

1st, I do agree, it's a lost battle, because no matter what someone will always be unhappy. I personally don't care what tags are on a book, it's my responsibility to know what I'm buying, so I don't notice or complain, that's on me. But with a company that size , it's their problem to figure out their filtering process if they're going to be the ones to take the heat from it. Just pulling all self-pub authors is a ridiculous response, IMO. I'm not saying the fix is easy, I'm just saying their response is ludicrous. Gah, I don't like getting into these kinds of discussions for this reason, there's no easy answer. I just know I don't appreciate censorship, the same as I don't appreciate generalizations [ie all erotica is pornography]. That's the point I was trying to make.

A new process will have to be put into place then Kobo will need to email the authors and publishers to go through the new method and accept the new terms. It will probably take a couple weeks to get everything back to normal.

The thing is this is about Kobo covering their rears. If they put safety measures in place and then someone passes them that person is in violation of Kobo rules and Kobo can't be held as accountable. Being in trouble with the government is a big deal so I can understand the drastic measure.

In the long run this will be a good thing but the growing pains of it will make it harder on us for awhile who do buy from Kobo.

Books on Board (I think it was them anyway) used to have you opt in in order to be able to see certain content in their store. Seems like a pretty simple and effective way to me.

Of course you'll have authors purposely mislabeling their stuff, but...

Kobo also needs to fix their crappy search engine. It hasn't worked well since they were called Shortcovers before the name Kobo existed.

Problem with questionnaire: it's so trustful as publisher's or author's tags. Of course you can put it, but...

If Kobo was specific enough with the questions there would be much less problems. It won't be fool proof but they would cut down their work for them by 75% or more.

If the person then violated that they would be banned from Kobo. It's better than those silly tags which do nothing.

Anyone heard anything about the kindle book glitch at overdrive libraries? I was going to check out a kindle book from one of the libraries I have cards too and there was a note at the top saying they disabled the kindle books for now.
Googling only gave me this little thing from the wisconsin library, not one I belong too.

http://www.wplc.info/2013/10/update-...amazon-glitch/

Quote:
Below is an update on the issue reported to you early today regarding some Kindle users may be prompted to ‘Buy now with 1-Click’ when attempting to download a Kindle book from your OverDrive-powered website, rather than being taken to a page to redeem their checked out eBook title. Unless the user wants to buy the title, they should not click this option:

While we continue to work with Amazon to resolve this issue, we have temporarily disabled the Kindle book format from your OverDrive-powered website. Users will not be able to borrow, download, or place a hold on Kindle books during this time. However, Kindle books currently checked out will not be affected.

We will continue to update you when we have additional information.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.
I ended up just buying the book from amazon as it wasn't that expensive and I needed to keep reading after reading the sample.
Of course I just send in the check for another year at the FLP. They still haven't cashed it yet though after 10 days. My card is running out tomorrow.
If my local library had some decent selection in romance I wouldn't have to get other cards.

Never trust anything online. Period.

I can say this sucks I somehow scratched my glasses really bad I'm wearing my back up pair and today I notice they have a scratch on them. I'm starting to think maybe the coating is just flaking off as I have been super careful with this pair. Anyone ever seen that happen?!?

I can't afford new ones till November or not depending if the Government gets their rears in gear and opens again. Our Veterans benefits wont be here till they are designated by Congress for the year.

I need glasses to see everything including my Kindle.

Sorry to hear Blossom.

I buy most of my glasses from zenni optical online since I can't afford them at the regular places. I need more than one with my eye issues.

Could it be the anti reflective coating that is damaged? So far so good on mine. I am so careful with all of mine too.

I too can't read without glasses, heck I can't drive or watch TV without them. I have dreaded bifocals. I miss my gas permeable contacts I wore for over 20 years. My eyes are not cooperating. I would just throw regular reading glasses over those and the contacts lasted for years.

I think it is the coating coming off. Each time I wash them they seem to have a new scratch or nick and I just put these on today I got these in 2009 I think or 2010 from Sears Optical. I got two pairs because I do need a backup just in case. I would buy online if I knew how it works. I guess you need a prescription?

I can't do anything without them but see blurry images.
