I've written >30 books. And I've reviewed books. But I only review books I actually want to read, cause life is way too short to read dreck.

I pirate books all the time.

Why, every Friday the lovely wife and I put on our patches, jump in our air ship and raid the local bookstore. If we're feeling REALLY pirate'y, we head over to the next town and take on the fortress like B&N-but they are learning, they've got ground to air rocket installations now.

If everyone stops paying for ebooks, perhaps the authors will have to start releasing them for free but putting advertising pages in their ebooks.

This is the system that TV, newspapers and radio have used for years - content for free and getting paid by advertisers.

Sad if it comes to that.

I am finding since I got Netflix, I watch almost nothing on regular TV anymore because I hate commercials. Instead, I just look for another Netflix series and leave the newer ones until they eventually come to Netflix.

For my ereader I do not get pirated books however it does annoy me that we are not able to loan our books without the ereader to a friend. If I have the paper back I can loan it to as many people as I want and the author gets no further compensation. It would be nice to be able to loan the books to a few people when it is an ebook.

Thumbs down LET'S NOT!

Odd, (oh yeah, hi everyone), I was researching via the net, a site advertised on this forum. It was very tempting. Unlimited downloads, for $14.99 a month. Well, too good to be true to me, so I found that it was reputedly a scam. Weeellll! I should say. But I did take advantage of their 3day free trial. And I got 3 out of about 15 of their offerings (bait). I didn't give up CC info, thinking too good to be true. Nasty pirates are not to be trusted.

Words are cheap; if you really want to say "thank you", please contribute some books to our library yourself.

Get out of the wrong side of the bed this morning Harry?

He's alerted us to a scam site in the adverts on this site (although a PM with the site address would be good) and said thank you for the nicely formated ebooks on this site.

Apart from a tendency to SHOUT, blacccat seems to be an excellent new member of MobileRead.

No intention to be impolite, Paul, but it really does strike me that the best way to say "thank you" for our eBook library is to do something to improve it, even if that "something" is only to proof-read a book and tell the poster about the errors that are found in it, so it can be improved for future readers.

The number of people who contribute to our library is tiny. While thanks are, of course, always nice to have, practical contributions really are the best way to way "thank you" and show that you mean it!

Harry, words well taken. Please take the thanks with grace--as it is sincerely given.

Please remember, though, that us "newbies" (not quite 1 month with an ereader) here are just that. I am just learning how to use my reader (sandbox level)--heck, just getting the nerve to transfer a book offered in one format to epub has me nervous of destroying the formating.

I am not a techie, proficient in HTML/coding nor have I figured out the knack of "re-publication" or "format-proofing" (didn't honestly think it would be necessary to read a book) and while it would be most desired, I cannot read at the speed of light to start editing the books that have been contributed. (Plus, I edit all day long in my work on my pc and frankly like to "just read" every once in a while, please don't be upset.)

As I have posted previously--I, for one, joined the "ebook family" rather naively expecting the same quality of books in this format as in PB. I was promptly quite disillusioned. It is the elibrary here that have convinced me to stay with it (and even look into furthering my education with html, etc. to deal with formatting, as time may permit).

I confess to having downloaded a few which strike my fancy. I have not gotten to reading them let alone proofing them. And so I add my thanks, as well, and hope that my heart-felt appreciation for your and others' efforts is well taken.

Nook and kindle allow you to lend books (for 14 days, 1 time per book) to another individual with a nook or kindle account, as long as the publisher allows it as well. I have lent and borrowed many books this way. Unfortunately, if you buy the same books elsewhere (say, the publisher's bookstore, sony, etc.) you can't lend/borrow it it. So you can lend, it's just restricted by platform and publisher. (You can lend without the device/s if you use the nook/kindle apps).
