I didn't mind the weight of the Nook, I just didn't like the interface, but a lot of people love it, so I must be particular ;-) Plus, I don't want to be locked in and don't trust myself to root it right. The Flyer comes to $75 (with the taxes) than the old A1 price. Now the A1 is available for preorder on Amazon for $199 (16GB), no tax, free ship, etc. BUT, someone pointed out on the Lenovo forums that the Amazon one has a different model number than Lenovo's site listings, so they're wondering if these are remanufactured already or something. There's no info on that specific model. Put in a pre-order, which I can easily cancel if I finally decide to do the Flyer all by myself or wait for Mike to do it for Christmas. Logic says wait for Christmas, but I've been waiting since the end of September for a replacement that's mine and not my work one. The NookTab is intriguing, but only if B&N is more open, which I doubt. ::sigh:: |

No release date yet. Played with the Flyer today, and I think that's the way I'm going. It's now a question of patience: wait for Christmas and let the fiance chip in, or get it now and finally have some closure on this, as well as get back to my ereading and personalizing my tablet. It'd be easier if I had the Kobo wifi to hold me over until Christmas (not the same, but a limp along), but that's wrapped up at the mother-in-law's house. Then I could take it to the gym now (it'll be my gym reader, Borders liquidation).
Hmm ... maybe I could make a deal with the fiance and his parents; I can have the Kobo back and wrap the HTC up? ![]() The Flyer's also proven and has a new OS coming up, if I decide to go Honeycomb way, whereas the A1 has a lot of uncertainty going on. I'm hoping that when B&N goes all official Monday, that HTC will be motivated to drop the Flyer's price closer to the new Nook. If so, I'll grab it, and the fiance can just find me something else for Christmas ;-) Or get the pen if it drops down in price ;-) |

Nah, I don't want a Kindle or to be tied to Amazon, though I do agree the screen is nicer. The A1 kind of has a bad taste in my mouth now.
![]() Oh, so I was in Best Buy yesterday oggling the goods, and this poor man was getting told misinformation by one of the employees. Did you know you can easily share between Nooks and Kindles? ![]() ![]() The BBs here also do not have Vox demos up yet and don't seem to know anything about them, though you can order from the website. |

Oh, I agree, the A1 should be nice if turns out how it should be. I'm just wary.
Ugh, Best Buy. I only use them as a petting zoo, but if I go with the Flyer, they are currently my cheapest choice (though they are all out of stock in a 200 mile radius from me, supposedly could order site to store in 3-5 days). I'm hoping that HTC will respond to the B&N announcement with a price drop on the HTC, but I rather doubt it. I can't believe how high they priced it to begin with. What were they thinking? It should be priced closer to the $249 Nook Tablet, going by specs but allowing that it comes with less violated Android, the Market, and decent cameras (for a tablet). Honestly, that could be worth $50, but to grab shoppers, they need to be closer to the NC and Fire, because most consumers are in the "ooh, shiny! ooh shiny price!" mentality. It's just the weirdly obsessed like us (MR) who start getting into the gritty details. ![]() My favorite BB this month: "What's a Kobo?" This from a "helper" standing in front the e-reader display, where there is a Kobo WiFi. ![]() ![]() |

Amazon has it now at about $200 for the 16GB.

Just saw the new Kindle Fire commercial on YouTube. I have to say it looks really nice to hold.

![]() Another one you might consider is the Vizio tablet it's dropped in price under $200 at Walmart and Costco. I'm seriously considering picking one up myself as I have a Vizio TV it might integrate well with..... see this thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=155211 |

Exactly, it's listed on Amazon, but there's that unknown release date. This morning I just got my cancellation confirmation from Lenovo. Took them awhile! I was actually expecting them to ship it! Then I'd basically say oh well and accept my fate.
The problem with the Vizio, as noted on MR and other tablet forums, is that Vizio named the internal SD card in a way that moving apps to the SD card pushes them not to your external card but this internal partition, so you're very limited on apps. No one's been able to root it to solve this problem yet. However, if you're not going to use many apps, the $189 at CostCo for a pretty decent budget tablet is a good idea. :-) I've thought about it, but I ran out of space so fast on my dead Coby and had memory problems and partition issues that I just want to avoid that again. I'm thinking I want to get something that will last me 2-3 years at the very least. It irks me that only the bulky Thrive offers a replaceable battery. These devices would probably last longer if not for limited battery life. ![]() |

After reading up the issues on the K1 you might be relieved on missing out on the A1. |
