It seems like the mods are (hopefully) close to a decision, and it may involve a subforum for us. I think if the decision comes soon we should at least wait and see what we've got here to work with, and I think their decision will end debate and get us started with enjoyable discussion.
I agree with waiting. If we don't get the subforum, a move to Goodreads is a good idea. Goodreads is also a very nice way to keep track of what you have read. Maybe we'd get more MR members on Goodreads if we dd move there.

I'm in......very doubtful I can get through 100......I've never kept track of how many hardcopy books I've read in the past......with my new Ereader, I'll surely get more than last year......but no way 100....

I like it, as a place to keep track of what I've read though.....

I agree as well, I prefer to keep our group on MR for the time being. I think we'll lose a lot of people in the 'read 100 books group' by moving to goodreads.

Welcome, come join the feast I've heard a lot of people say the same thing, and I'm really doubtful I'll be able to read that many books as well. It doesn't matter, just have fun with it!

Sounds good to me I'm on your friends list over there and keeping track of my reading already using GoodReads. This would make my life easier when updating my book list.

The goodreads thing was just a suggestion. If we get our own sub-forum we don't really need it, but if we don't it could be a way to get what we want. I like that it is easy to add books with covers or author/book links to your posts. I understand about it not being on MR though. Some people might not want to join another site. Although, it is a great way to keep track of your books even if we don't use it for the 2011 club.

Haha, I am Care everywhere too. It is my nickname though, so it is easy to remember. At goodreads it is Carrie(Care). I think I posted my url at the social group.

I like the idea, but all these threads and groups and whatnot are just overwhelming for me. I like to keep my read list as a simple title -> author -> format kind of list. (I kept one for 2009 and it was useful for me.)

I tried to use Goodreads for 2010, but it was too much time and work to add books and I added very few books relative to what I read. I've gone back to a plain list for this year.

I am willing to partipate, but I won't do ratings or reviews. I'm happy to share my list, if it interests anyone, and to pop in now and then to join in discussions -- but that's what I do in the forum anyway.

Can I have a ticker?

You never know, I thought that I wouldn't last year, but I ended up reaching 100 books way before the end of the year. When you start to keep track you might find that you read more than you thought you did. Best of luck!

Awww, of course you can have a ticker.

Many people are doing things differently, within the group, to suit their own needs. However you decide to do it is absolutely fine. In book discussions, the more people the better to make it interesting.

I didn't realize there was an actual MobileRead group on Goodreads - nice. Just joined. (I'm Heather Wells Lackey there.)

I'd like a subforum here, but if we can't get one, the idea of trying to do the whole challenge in a thread or two doesn't appeal to me much, so if a subforum doesn't happen, my vote would be for a Goodreads group.

sakura-panda, if we did end up at Goodreads, it wouldn't mean you'd need to track your books using their shelves. You could stick with your plain list and pop in for discussions just as you would here.

Will someone who knows what they're doing at Goodreads start a group specifically for this group? Like "Mobileread 100 in 2011" or something like that.

My user name is Cherrybomb over there, feel free to friend me. I just started actually using it and still getting a feel for the place.
