@huber70

If the CPU gets too hot (around 80C) the CPU will automatically reduce speed (and draws less power) until the temperature of the CPU is below that threshold.

To speed up the process of indexing you need to provide your own additional cooling.
For example to point a regular cooling fan in the direction of the Pi.
Just a bit of airflow helps!

just found another way:

https://github.com/raspberrypi/docum...anagement.adoc

installed and run the command "sudo cpufreq-set -g powersave"
temperature is now by 58-60°C

I see 60C, but not 600MHz.

What is the output of top ?

Or htop ?
to install: sudo apt install htop

Nice monitor!

sorry, 60°C, you're right

increased MHZ to 1000MHZ "sudo cpufreq-set -u 1000MHz -d 1000MHz"
temperature now 66°C

Keep increasing to 70C-75C with a max of 1500MHz or 1800MHz for a newer Pi4.

I find it ridiculous that a program needs hours and hours of "indexing" to function properly.

ok, 1500 MHZ, 75-77°C

Well, generally you're right the time concerned to read and write, on the other hand it just happens once, afterwards only new added folders will be indexed in a shorter time...

Nevertheless: I like to thank you again for your comprehensive and patient help, it is highly appreciated. I probably have to come back as I just have access via the ip-address, not via freemyip - but now I will wait until all files are read

btw: I just bought the PI an aluminium case for passive cooling

You wrote: btw: I just bought the PI an aluminium case for passive cooling

1) good investment!
2) now the total cost of the Pi is such that you could probably have bought a small regular PC like the Intel NUC (regrettably no new ones will be coming) or Asrock Deskmini or etc for about the same total amount of money.
3) the main advantage of the Pi is the vast number of HOW-TO's that can be found on the www.

I want such a monitor on my "to buy if the price is right" list. Availability here is only from Amazon, and I do not want to buy from Amazon unless the price is such that I would be stupid not to.

What is the exact model? S1 or A1?
It might be a nice complement to my new Apple Macbook.

It's S1, bought it at 95 Euro, just amazon or Ebay

Price of PI 4B 8gB is down at the moment to 113 € at amazon and: Right, I will learn something about Linux, PhotoPrism, Calibre-Web, FreemyIP - thanks mariosipad

PS: 1) half of the index job is done
2) The picture on the monitor screen is the Storebælt-Bridge in Denmark between Isles of Fünen/Seeland made last month during holidays. Stood beside the beginning of the bridge at a parking ground and sent my drone seawards

1) monitor: That's a nice price! At this moment € 20 - € 25 more expensive.

2) I bought my Pi4 - 4 GB with power supply, plastic case, small annoing fan (can be automatically switched on and off) and mini-HDMI cable for just under € 100 (before the chip shortages).

3) When you are really into photography I think a drone with a good camera can add value! I really like the picture

Price at amazon just is 109,99 €

My first PI 4B has a nice home :-)

Drone: Same bridge - view to the roadway (extracted from a video)

Cool case. I now hope the Pi really runs cool with that fan (and a big heatsink?).
Can you set the fan to only spin up at a certain CPU temp?
Just a big heatsink is usually enough to keep the temps down at regular use.

The pictures are also nice.
The bus on the first picture is, to my eyes, a bit unsharp (for lack of a better way to describe it) while the picture is not. My eyes do not seem to like the colour.
No such problems with the second photo.

The "cool case" is for the PI 1 (with calibre-web), heatsink and fan, but not activated (makes a tiny noise, nothing for my ears) and temperature is without fan 51°C

The bus (definitive a Flix-Bus) is really a bit unsharp, consider, this is a DJI Mini drone under wind, little zoom, running bus and extracted out of a mp4 movie - guess, we cannot expect more...

No criticism intended.

I have this https://www.raspberrypi.com/products...pi-4-case-fan/ case fan.

It will switch on and off at a given CPU temperature. this temperature can be set in the Raspberry Pi Configuration tool.

It's good that it does not always run as the sound is ear-bleeding.
