The Road by Cormac McCarthy: I read this in a 24-hour period, kept thinking about it when I wasn't reading. It's difficult to explain why; it's a very unusual book. There are very few characters and none of them are ever named. It actually leaves more questions than it answers....actually it doesn't answer any questions at all now that I think about it. But, I loved the book! I can't say more without spoiling it for those who haven't yet read the book.

I agree, Crsheila. Also, I remember something one of my authors came out with in a recent book: "At the end of days, the last man will die with a question on his lips -- not an answer." I find that kind of encouraging. Being human is all about the quest ... better to travel than to arrive ... all that. Neil

I saw you had instituted that - best of luck to you . Fortunately for me (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it), my budget is limited enough that I can't really overspend - I'll be doing really well to even keep up with new releases by my "favorite" authors.

"Men at Arms" is just plain laugh out loud funny, and "Jingo" conveys a interesting message about tolerance and stereotyping that has stuck with me ever since I first read it.

I received his newest hardcover for Christmas, but will probably save it until I go back to work.

Actually, Tux was never beaten up. He was two different zombies and then frozen in honor of the weather. As you can see now, he's gone through a few more changes.

I'm almost at the end of my Gena Showalter Atlantis Series bundle. Just started the last full book, "The Vampire's Bride," and last is a novella. I love cheap good bundles

I am about halfway through Guilty by Karen Robards. I am getting a bit bored, and it's a library book so I may ditch it.

And I continue to really like this series. Fun, and sometimes disturbing, MilSF with a touch of space opera. Not to mention sailing ships in space. :-)

Next up, keeping up with magazine subs - the latest F&SF, January–February 2010 has just arrived on my booksheld at fictionwise. A slightly more literary magazine than Analog and Asimov's, but still with enjoyable stories.

Last night I finally got around to starting The Judas Goat by Robert B. Parker.

MSpenser has gone to London—and not to see the Queen. He's gone to track down a bunch of bombers who've blown away his client's wife and kids. His job is to catch them. Or kill them. His client isn't choosy.
MBut there are nine killers to one Spenser—long odds. Hawk helps balance the equation. The rest depends on a wild plan. Spenser will get one of the terrorists to play Judas Goat—to lead him to others. Trouble is, he hasn't counted on her being very blond, very beautiful and very dangerous.

Judas Goat was my first intro to Spenser. I still love it!

Just finished the first book in the Night Angel Trilogy (The way of Shadows) by Brent Weeks. Taking a break from that series and reading Forever Odd, the second boo in the Odd Thomas series by Dean Koontz.

Finished Storm Glass and Sea Glass - both enjoyable, the former more than the latter. The formatting on both was dire.
