That's my general take, too. Yet so many insist that I have a blest day. Either way, it tends to feel like an order. And based on how difficult it can be to wrangle having a mere "good day," a tall one at that.

Hitch: when you are somewhat out of the woods, a small kindle book with all your comments might help others feel how bad it is. There’s a online ad I keep seeing (Fb?) which has vivid pictures (open red pores as “rash”, steel shavings as the feeling; metal lacing the back too); your text would help the readers in a similar way. And you are uniquely positioned!

Hmph. Had I but known, I should have sought to be more photogenic, lol, in the images I took for my (regular) docs, but...I will think about it. I've been unsurprised, in my "travels" (here, online, I mean; the only "travelling" I do right now is from the couch to the office, where I sit at the moment to the Little Captain's Room and welp, that's about it!), as to how few people really do understand how excruciating this can be. And how unnecessary! Given that a stable, live, tested vax exists!

I do, in fact, have pics, but yeeessh.

I think your verbal descriptions are what is really needed. Maybe one pic to say “it may not look too terrible, but here’s how it feels”. Just gather up your extremely descriptive texts from here.

I believe the southern three-syllable variant would be "bah-less-ed."
But in accordance with the law of conservation of syllables, southerners compensate by pronouncing two-syllables words like "tire" and "iron" with only one syllable: "taahr" and "aahrn."

I don't quite know. There has been a complication, a reaction to the Gabapentin, that wasn't a positive thing so I had to scale Waaaaaaaaay back on it. The bad news is, that's the medicine that was actually helping to control the nerve pain, which is the biggie in this Shingles Stuff. I've been lowering the dose on the Gaba as directed by the docs (not optional, just so everybody knows, not playing Dr. House here). In the last 48 hours, the intensity of the pain (presumably, due to the much-lowered dose) has increased rather noticeably. Clearly, I've reached the PNR--the point of no return--on the amount of the Gaba, versus how much pain I can withstand.

So, right now if I breathe, and god forbid the material of my shirt touches my skin, in any fashion, I get searing flares of burning pain. Oh, and hey, just in case I didn't have that, in the preceding few minutes--just so I don't forget!--I then get just apparently random flares that are MUCH larger, much deeper. Sometimes, it's actually hard to force yourself to breathe, because that makes your chest move, your torso inflate, and yup, the skin on your ribs stretches and KABLAMMO!, one Thunderbolt direct from the heavens!

Day 28, Life in the Rash Lane. I think I'm gonna go huddle up with my blankie and my sofa.

Oh, Hitch. So sorry to hear that you had to cut back on the gabapentin. And what comes with that, obviously. I'd say "I feel your pain", but who would I be kidding. I do, however, sympathize with your pain, big time.

Yup, I do know and thanks, isarl. I seem to have a real nasty spot right in my intercostal nerve bundle area. Oh, joy. That's the one that has been giving me yip since yesterday and now seems to be on a mission to piss off its brethren on the back torso, because that's starting to radiate/throb/whatever in sympathy. (And of course, the intercostal. Nothing like making you nervous, right? URGH.)
