You need Satsuoni's tools, and the process is a bit different than manually adding files from where the app stores them. Basically you need to run the archiver (bundled with the deDRM tools) via command line; the archiver will transfer the deDRMed files to a dedicated folder and you'll add them to calibre from that folder.

And please avoid any mention of Epubor. For the most part, they seem to steal open source work that others have created and repackage it for commercial use while violating the conditions of the various open source licenses in effect.

I surrender. Apparently liberating Kindle files has moved well beyond my computer skills. I have read all the instructions and watched the instruction video. It might as well be in Greek. I just won't be buying anymore books from Amazon. All I got from my last hour of work is a headache.

since the kindle microsoft store version, its pretty much back to just running one exe file and then importing the files you get into calibre

The new version of Kindle was not working with the new software to remove the DRM. I did fix it. My solution was to uninstall and reinstall.

This is madelonw responding (apparently, I never do). Anyway, what I do is download my books using the buggy newest Kindle for Windows (whatever the MS store is calling it these days). These books are stored in

C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Packages\AMZNK indle.AmazonKindleReadingApp_m1sc522ngdk36\LocalSt ate\Classic\Content

You need to give Epubor this location just once. After that, the program will automatically go to that location to find your Kindle books.

After downloading the books with Kindle for Windows, I run Epubor, select the books I want to add to Calibre and the program does all the work.

As for never responding, I get emails to the threads to which I am subscribed on a weekly basis. Sometimes, no digests at all. I have asked many a question without receiving an answer, so I muddle along until I find a way to accomplish what I want to do.

Computers were once my life. I am a retired IT support technician. Now, books are my life (they always have been, but more so now). I write reviews (on my PC) for all the books I read. My reason for de-DRMing my books is so that I can have a open copy on my desktop for reference for my reviews. Searching on my Kindle device is way too slow, and then I have to wade through pages of results. I prefer to do that with the Calibre reader.

That software is run by thieves and scam artists. They steel code and then charge you for it. They cheat and steal from you.

Given that you were once an IT tech, it's best if you dumped that garbage and used the free software that (IMHO) works better.

Besides, when you ask here, you'll usually get an answer. People here are willing to help except not with that program.

Correct. You either need Windows 11 with TPM or a VM with a simulated TPM and Windows 11.
