Apparently Florida voted to go to Daylight Savings Time all year around, rather than just do way with Daylight Savings Time. In the USA, only Congress with the blessing of the President have the authority to make changes to how any state or territory observes Daylight Savings Time, but states and territories can on their own decide to not observe Daylight Savings Time.
Another strange USA law! So AZ and HI have decided to stay on Standard Time all year around. Texas has a couple of introduced bills that will make Standard Time an all year around time too, but those may or may not even make it to the floor for a vote, so only time will tell if either will get passed and signed. I hope it does become the law here in TX as I hate the time changes twice a year. At any rate, this would be way off topic ( ) if not for the point that with every state or territory in the USA the observance of Daylight Savings Time, or the lack thereof, can vary and it might not be well documented. Personally I wish Congress and POTUS would just abolish Daylight Savings Time and make everyone use Standard Time to simplify everything. I can only imagine how confusing it must have been to those who lived in the USA in the mid 1880s before the advent of railroad systems caused the need to develop and implement a Standard Time system based on time zones rather than every town, state, territory, etc. using its own system. But mass and rapid transportation (for its day) required a standardization. From what I understand, North America is one of the few areas world wide that still observes Daylight Savings Time. Yes it can be a bit confusing, as a Hawaiian (no DST) having to deal with people throughout the mainland time zones trying to remember if and when they're 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 hours ahead can be frustrating. Thankfully my higher headquarters is in Arizona... no change.

Yup.
It's not Internet-ese, it's primarily Southern. The direct translation would be "heck yeah, brother." It's most memorable to me because of the "what Gus is saying" scene from the movie "The Right Stuff." ApK Last edited by ApK; 03-19-2019 at 12:46 AM. |

Okay, now I see. Basically means, “[Bleep]ing Ay dude!” Yep I’ve heard that phrase a lot in my time. And yes many here do drop their G’s when the word ends in “ing”. LOL, I was trying to figure out what “[a word beginning with ‘F’] in [a word beginning with ‘A’]” meant, maybe because most of my family and friends pronounce their G’s.
![]() BTW, “bubba” is often used in a derogatory manner to basically imply a person is a lazy bum and/or not very intelligent. That’s probably just a regional thing though. I’m not sure why it is used like that, but it often is. |

BTW, I was curious how the "****ing A" phrase originated. I hear it a lot, but never knew anything about its origin. According to the internet it began as a shortened term used within the military during WWII. The "A" was originally the word "Affirmative", and the soldiers would yell out "AFIRMATIVE" when something was done correctly, but over time that changed to "****ING AFIRMATIVE", and was later just shortened to "****ING A". Not sure that is accurate, but it sounds plausible. Unfortunately my dad and all of my relatives who were WWII combat veterans are long gone so I cannot verify with them. |
