I drink a fair amount of seltzer, but I could give it up if necessary; I like flat water, too. But the coffee is life's blood, first thing in the morning.

The faux San Pellegrino was my solution to getting off Diet Coke. I find it difficult to drink sufficient flat water to get my required level of liquid, and with two of the medications I'm taking, that's not a good idea. Besides, I enjoy the carbonated, slightly mineralized, water, and since I know _exactly_ what is in it, I am not concerned.

As for coffee? I'm fine with tea, but one or the other is required. I don't love coffee sufficiently that if I had to give up caffeine for some reason I'd switch to decaf. But giving up tea would be way harder. (And decaf tea is simply disgusting, IME!)

I gave up all caffeine when I was in my last year of law school, which served to kick my Diet Coke habit as well as the general ickiness associated with the dependency on the drug. I was having a handful of troubling health issues, almost all of which disappeared when I gave up the sodas and other stimulant-laden drinks.

I did not start drinking coffee again until I had been in practice for more than six years, and I still make sure never to have it more than 2 days consecutively so my system does not get used to the caffeine. I never went back to the sodas.

I drink gads of water because we workout 6 days a week and I am a natural sweater. I have to pre-hydrate and re-hydrate a ton. That pushes out most everything else. I do enjoy teas, but am fine with the herbal/non-caffeinated varieties.

I more or less alternate months with alcohol. I'll go a month or two with it and then a month or two without. I enjoy some wine (or beer, etc.) at night when I'm reading and everyone else is in bed, and the general medical opinion seems to be that drinking in moderation is okay, but I figure it can't hurt to let my liver "dry out" for a while.

Carbonated drinks would be tougher, for a variety of reasons.
