I've just seen that there's a five volume collection of all of Philip K Dick's shorter works. I'm resisting at the moment. I have so many wonderful books to read, I know I wouldn't get to them for ages. Perhaps they'll have a discount sale at some point.
Yes, I must wait until they go on sale. Oh - the fifth one is only £1.99.... must resist! |

My wishlist has repopulated, alas. But an ancillary benefit to the mega-coupons at Kobo has been that I have entirely unrealistic limits on the price I'm willing to pay for ebooks. And, again big thanks to Kobo, now that the odds of getting a good coupon code are infinitesimal, the likelihood of my being willing to buy them in the near future seems slim.
I'm semi-serious in crediting Kobo with my new abstemiousness. Back in the day, I'd leap on a 25% coupon. It's not even worth a shrug, now. And I definitely don't have the time or patience to generate sufficient contest codes to get a "good" one, so the change in odds has benefited my bottom line, also. So, I'll just wait. Maybe I can get an OverDrive library to make a purchase or get some at the p-library. I can probably find something to read in the meantime.... |

I must admit that I'm much less willing to spend on ebooks since Kobo coupons and Kindle daily deals came along. More than £2 for an ebook seems expensive. Indeed, of the 134 books I've bought this year, only 15 were over £2 and only 6 over £3. (None over £5)
[Edit: 21 were non-bundle books of £1 or less! Last edited by pdurrant; 07-10-2015 at 04:36 PM. |

I'm not as hard nosed about price as you two are, but I _am_ a lot more willing to wait some considerable time to try to get a good deal. I'll no longer buy any but my most hard core favourite series when they release, which means maybe 4 or 5 authors total. Everyone else, it waits until they come down in price a bit. Or maybe the next time around there will be decent coupons at Kobo without requiring a huge expenditure of time and effort.

Doing well. Bought a $1.99 audiobook that has long been on my wishlist (audible special that day) and resisted the 'sale' on the later books. I don't know if I will LIKE the first book, so I can wait. Still have to use my 6 credits by the beginning of the next cycle. I want to stop my audible account for a year. Really need to listen to a lot of books to get caught up with my TBR. I've been listening to Outlander now for 3 weeks and STILL am not done with it due to interruptions (haven't been on the internet much either).

The recent Prime day promotion that got me £3 ebook credits for 'no-rush' shipping caused me to build up a considerable amount of credit at Amazon (about £42!) through buying CDs and DVDs I wanted individually.
But it does mean (since I still count the credits as money spent on ebooks - meaning I get the CDs and DVDs almost free) that I'm way over budget for July, although not over-budget for the year so far. But with all the credit needing spending before the end of August, I'm going to be pushing my yearly budget by the end of August too. Luckily it's a month where I have few subscription issues due, so I reckon I can manage to keep in budget. I'll be getting plenty of excellent new books that I've had my eye on for ages, but have resisted because they weren't couponable at Kobo. Now that I must spend at Amazon, several of them will be coming my way - if they're at a good price. (Checking with luzme.com to see how much books have been offered at over the past few months is an excellent way to judge whether the current price is a bargain or not.) E.g. I now have Dodger and The Long Mars in my TBR pile instead of my TBB pile. I'm very glad I was so frugal earlier in the year. |

Even more so now that a series I've had my eye on for some time has just been the UK daily deal - the first seven Poldark novels for just £1.19 each.
Amazingly, I'm still within my spending limit for the year, although I spent double my monthly budget this month! |

I've just taken a closer look at my numbers. I have been over my monthly budget for the past three months. Clearly I did well at the start of the year but old habits are creeping back in. I shall aim to not only be under budget for the year as a whole, but to be under budget for each of the remaining five months (August - December) individually!

Re dedication! That's the ticket, Paul. One day at a time, you can do it. When in the throws of eBook buying lust, go to a meeting first. (That is, come here, of course.)

I think I can do it. Granted, I've just crept closer to my limit by buying today's Kindle daily deal, but I really think I get get back on the wagon in August-December and end the year with my remaining monthly budgets intact.
Well, unless all the Dumarest titles go on sale for £0.99 or something similar! It would be foolish to pass up real bargains of books I want. It's just necessary to remember to leave space in one's budget for those unexpected bargains. |

Agreed about real bargains. Or unlimited use 90% coupons.

I have inexplicably* bought two full-price new pbooks this month, so my financial figures aren't looking so great, but I'm still breaking even on the TBR overall.
I'm not having very much trouble resisting ebooks at the moment. The prices on Amazon have really spiked, lately. Almost everything on my wishlists is more expensive than it was a month or two back, in some cases way more expensive than they've ever been. *Totally explicably. One is the third book in a trilogy where I own the first two in hardback, so obviously I had to have a matching set. The other is unavailable (here?) as an ebook, and also has a revised edition we don't seem to have had in the UK, so I bought it as an import from a local specialist. (I'd like to continue to have a local specialist, so I throw them a bone every now and again.) I've already read the first. |

I have been tempted, but I just walk away and go play the piano or Lego for a while then get to the library to borrow some books so I have something to read.
