My aunt and her husband are visiting my father in the hospital today. She also went a couple of weeks ago, but on her own and used public transport to get there. Then she had also wanted to come and visit my mother, but luckily she didn't.
We hope they won't come today. Since both my aunt and uncle come we expect them to drive, and it's difficult to get into the city center by car and parking is expensive. If they do come I'm expecting Drama. When she's visiting she always expects to be waited on hand and foot. But I'm working in the store and won't have time to go upstairs to make coffee. And my mother can't; the kettle/water compartment of the coffee machine is too heavy for her. So my aunt will have to make coffee herself. I'm also not going to the patisserie to get pastry/cake. If my aunt and uncle show up they will have to do with *gasp* supermarket chocolates. So today I will be keeping my fingers crossed that they won't show up and I will have a nice and relaxing start of my Easter weekend. |

And they’re here. They got here at noon. My father’s visiting hour doesn’t start until three. So if they leave at two thirty they’ll be early.

My aunt and uncle didn't even stay for an hour. Thanks to Luna. Who partook in her favourite thing: staring at humans. And while she normally does this from a distance, my uncle needed closer scrutiny and she sat right next to him on the sofa. He's allergic to a great many things, including cats, and he shooed her away a couple of times. But Luna is a cat and is not deterred by being shooed away. So my aunt and uncle suddenly remembered they had some urgent shopping to do.
Luna will get some extra treats tonight. |

I decided they weren't worth the energy. I have better things to spend my energy on. Like cross stitching, stabbing a piece of fabric hundreds of times in one evening also works to get rid of frustrations. Plus, I decided I deserved some retail therapy. I just bought a new CS kit, some accessories and a new pair of embroidery scissors.

At least my aunt convinced my father he has to go to a medical rehabilitation center. Last week he just wanted to go home. But she "convinced" (told him straight up) that that isn't an option and he will need more specialized care for a little while.
He only gets 10 minutes of physical therapy at the hospital, which consists of walking up and down the hallway a couple of times. On Saturday he was told he has to leave the hospital this week and when he asked about going to a rehab facility they were vague "it's Easter, blah blah blah". But on Sunday the physical therapist put his foot down and now the hospital is going to arrange my father's move to a facility where he can get specialized care and proper physical therapy to get his strength back. There are several good rehab centers in the city, but it they don't have a place free he might be placed further away. Which tbh I wouldn't mind, visiting him is taking a lot of my energy. Last week my sister couldn't go for three days in a row so I went and it just wiped me out. I also told my mother that when my father gets home and starts getting his strength back I not only expect him to actively work on his recovery (and not sit still as he is wont to do when he isn't feeling well), but I also expect him to do household chores, as least until he starts working in the store again. I'm not expecting him to do everything and he'll start with easy chores, but I'm not going to be doing everything when he is able to do things. |

Yesterday my father finally got a blood transfusion. They've been talking about that since his first operation, over three weeks ago. He had lost more blood than during a usual bypass operation, plus he had the leaky artery/vein, which they didn't find until eight days after the first surgery. But they had held off because he was retaining fluids.
But after three weeks his body hasn't been able to get the number of red blood cells back to normal and he is anemic. So yesterday he finally got a blood transfusion first and after that he got a drip with an iron supplement. Last night, when my mother called him, he thought he was feeling better, less dizzy when getting up. I can understand why they didn't want to immediately give a blood transfusion. But when your body had to endure three heart operations in eight days it might not be able to heal as quickly as when you only had one heart operation. Because of deficiencies my father hasn't been able to move about as much as he liked and his physical therapy had to be cancelled several times. This hasn't been good for his recovery. Waiting three weeks was much too long. |

The US is going through a critical blood shortage, is your area going through a similar issue?
Hope this transfusion helps your dad in his recovery. |

But the good news today is that he going to a rehab center tomorrow. There he can get better care and better physical therapy. Today was a long day. With some not too intelligent customers. One came in to ask if we sell cork screws and one tried to pick a fight because we don't sell drills. But I finally tidied up the table in the store. I threw away a lot of things and ended up with a lunchbox sized container with things my father can sort and put away. Next week, if I have time, the workbench. |
