Most people would be appalled if they knew how many insects and insect parts they consume over their lifetime. At one time I worked as a lab assistant in a food plant, and one of my duties was to look through a microscope and count all the insect parts in a small sample of crushed peanuts to insure that their number did not exceed government allowances. It's virtually impossible to eliminate all the insects.

And Tom I think that targeting genes to kill insects thing is very much a double-edged sword. Who knows what harm we might do to the ecology/environment if that becomes wide-spread.

There are dangers; but it has to be better than the current system which involves spraying crops with pesticides that kill everything from honeybees to ladybugs.
