ARM 5 Repository Use
Quote:
I'm not sure what's going on because I'm new to Linux/Ubuntu and the variation on the Q7. Also, I find the error messages on the Q7 to be cryptic at best. The main point here is that what I tell you may be completely wrong and you'll have to proceed at your own risk. That said, I went around GDebi and downloaded the files directly to the Q7 from the repository. Then, I crossed my fingers and installed the libraries (click once on each deb file). GDebi loaded and installed. It worked for Flite even though I would not recommend it as the standard procedure. Normally, GDebi should help and go out, list the packages available, and let the user select the ones to download/install. Also, I would be sure to download to an SD card rather than the desktop because the Q7 has limited storage. I'm new to Ubuntu and many others have better knowledge. Please correct any errors in the above. |

There is also a forum from jiongtang with smartq stuff. In particular installing english language on it. Which I may have to do a reflash of the original operating system but wasn't sure about getting english back on it. Here's the link: http://www.jiongtang.com/fourm/viewforum.php?f=17

Finally it is here! Now to figure out some stuff. I have managed to connect to my network. Does the Q7 have handwriting recognition? I doubt if I will be writing much since I can connect a keyboard. Besides, I got this to read ebooks in color. Still it would be nice to take advantage of as many features as possible.

I have not used this software, but there's a link on the eletroworld.cn website for something called CellWriter: http://www.eletroworld.cn/nb/downloa....3.1-1_arm.rar It's a "grid-entry natural handwriting input panel." A discussion of it is here: http://freshmeat.net/projects/cellwriter/. I hope it works for you but, remember, install at your own risk. ![]() |

Hey I got mine!
I have been trying ot mess with it. Man it charges slowly, grin. Ok. I have a bunch of PDB files. That i put on the SD card. I put that card in and it found the card fine. I then tried to run FBreader. It found all the files fine. I then ejected the card to update the content of the PDB files to recent versions that were from sunrisexp. Just think of updating the PDB files on the SD card. When I inserted the card, the smartQ7 could not find the card. What I found worked was to restart the smartQ7 and then the SD card was found again. So the question is, how do we tell the smartQ7 to rescan or find the SD card was inserted again and make it available again. By the way, the SD card seems to be added as a symbolic link like /home/usr/disk |

BTW, try plugging in the smaller USB cable -- it should export your SD card as a USB HD to your desktop/laptop. Then just drag and drop... ![]() You may have to go into the menu, and find the "Close USB DEVICE" setting to then re-enable the regular USB port. Mine's on the fritz right now, so I cannot confirm. All this is from the quick-start guide. m a r |

I'm still struggling to repair my xorg.conf kaboom. The device is booting, and auto-connecting to my home network. I've got it's IP address from my router... Anyone know how to ssh into the thing? Straight attempt is refused -- maybe no ssh on the device?
Any other trick for accessing it? I think I borked the display -- so the thing is working, it's just not using the screen. Does anyone know if you can usb network it? Just get me at a console, let me edit that xorg.conf! [I just commented some lines... jeez! ![]() m a r |

Any one got regular WPA working?
I can do at home where I don't have any security. I know security hole, but we share 3 different internet connections between 3 houses because we all overlap and 1 access point covers each of us depending on where in your house you are, so it is easier to work together to provide good internet coverage. So I have security working with the smartQ7. At work I have WPA2, I think, but with entering the passphrase, I can't seem to get it to recognize the device. After I make chnages to the security or the protocol, do I have to do anything special, like restart or log out? Any idea the easiest way to put the device to sleep? Other then logout? Is a short cut on the desktop a good idea to put the device to sleep? USB keyboard and mouse makes setup much easier by the way. And thanks for the tip on the SD card access if you connect the device using USB mini connector. I will have to try that and I was wondering what the difference was and what that was for. |

I hope we get our own forum instead of falling under "other devices." Who do we talk to about that?

New Compatibility Thread For SmartQ 7 Hardware & Software
I started a thread here (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?p=488226) to track what works with the SmartQ 7 as it comes out of the box.
My initial categories include mice, keyboards, SD/SDHC cards, and software. Please contribute what you know works with the Q7 and its stock OS. Thanks. |

So far my only hardware discovery is its issue with SDHC cards. I'll post that in the thread and anything else I find.

I'm new here, but an N800/N810 user.
What bothers me about the Q7 is the battery. As I understand it, the battery is not user-accessible. This means that in a few years, it will not be usable, right? And I have often crashed my N800 or N810. My solution: remove the battery, replace it and reboot! With the Q7 I will have to wait till the battery runs out of power to get it to reboot that way? |
