This thread has been immensely helpful to jailbreak my 2022 PW (PW5) and get kindlehf (hard float) downloaded and installed. Many thanks. Reading up on "hard float" was interesting.

My question is do ya'll do any "cleanup" of your kindles after jailbreak and you decide to start using KOReader and Calibre more? I wouldn't necessarily call it bloat, but seems like there might be some unnecessary files/folders.

How stripped down can you make the Amazon side of things?

Everything went perfect on a brand new PW 2024, latest KOReader nightly runs well so far. Thank you so much for this.

Does it matter which jailbreak I go for on PW3? I just want to downgrade to a less shit firmware? Is it true that PW3s often get bricked with the kual downgrader? Which would be the recommended firmware version to avoid that happening?

Would the downgrade steps listed at `https://kindlemodding.org/firmware-and-flashing/downgrading/` work after Winterbreak & hotfix on a PW3?

>Backup any important data from your Kindle as this process will wipe everything in the device

This is what the guide says, but how is the device wiped exactly. Seems like that script makes the kindle believe it's a very low version & following that allows "updating" to anything. Updates don't wipe the kindle, is this really right? Am I misunderstanding something? Would factory resetting my 5.16.2.1.1 enough before doing these things?

Received help from Marek on discord & now my Kindle is downgraded. The answer to this question is that with winterbreak + the instructions in that guide I could downgrade following the steps to 5.14.1 & did not even lose my books and progress.

I'm glad I upgraded to the universal hotfix v1.13, as it finally stopped always bringing the Run Hotfix book to the beginning of the Most Recent.

Hello,

If I buy a recent kindle PaperWhite,

With this jailbreak, will I be able to install KUAL, the pythons packages, and the LibrarianSync plugin to manage/create my books collections on the kindle from Calibre?
That's all I care about, and that's what I've done on my KOA2. I'd like to be sure that I'll be able to do the same with a recent kindle and that there aren't any limitations I don't understand.

Thanks in advance,

Assuming your device is already jailbroken, drop the hotfix .bin file in the mrpackages dir of the Kindle over USB, eject/disconnect it, type ;log mrpi into the search bar.

Application error after Run Hotfix

Hi,
I have a Kindle in the PW Signature Edition 11th generation version, and I'm going to do the first part of the WinterBreak installation, including the installation of Mesquito. After restarting, I have the "Run Hotfix" option in the library, but after clicking it, Application Error: "The selected application could not be started" appears.
I tried the first steps again after deleting the WinterBreak log, but the result is the same.

Do I have to do this?

> "If you installed OTARenamer, make sure to uninstall it beforehand or the hotfix will not be detected by the Kindle"

as found here? https://kindlemodding.org/jailbreaki...g-up-a-hotfix/

Edit: Nevermind. I followed your instructions, and it worked. Thank you very much.

You do not need to uninstall OTARenamer. You do need to restore the OTA binaries using it's Restore function. This is needed when you are dropping the hotfix.bin file into the root of the Kindle and using the Update functionality of the Kindle to install it.

I have not used the ;log mrpi method to install the hotfix so not sure if that needs to have the OTA binaries restored.

Hmm. What I did was just copy paste the fix into the mrpackages folder in the root, then did the ;log mrpi method. The screen went white for a while then it was back to normal. I didn't restore the ota updates before doing this though. The hotfix isn't moving to the front anymore. Is it ok like this? I did rerun the rename ota again, after all this.

Edit: now the mrpackages where I dropped the hotfix is empty.
