Sony's new 13.3" digital paper DPTRP1 released

It's not Sony who to blame. EInk is not able (or doesn't want to) produce these 13.3" displays in larger quantities.

Just chiming in, I also pre-ordered on Amazon and it shipped yesterday. I chose 1-day shipping, but it says it's scheduled to arrive tomorrow; it's stuck in CA like others have said.

I have a Mac and PC and got both. It won't do much without the device being connected first - it looks like you have to register the device to really open up the app. I'm also not sure if you will be able to register it with more than one computer at a time (probably not because of the syncing).

For those curious, there is an option to set Auto Syncing in 10-60 intervals. As long as the app is running it will sync to your digital paper if it is connected by BT or Wi-Fi.

Also, quick edit: When I tried to run the PC installer on my Win 10 64-bit laptop, it kept crashing. I opened the .exe with 7-zip (could also use Win Rar if you have that), then ran the Win10-64-bit .msi file, and that worked. So if you have the same extraction problem, just extract the archive yourself with 7-zip.

Second edit: My unit just moved from the Amazon CA facility, presumably to FedEx. Hopefully my tracking number will start working soon.

I ordered from Amazon on June 9th but it was a no-go. I did add some funds from a gift card the other day and there were always rumors that doing that could put you further back in the queue but it has never been confirmed.

The device description specifically says that the program can be used on multiple devices and will keep them in sync.

Hooray~~B&H shipped mine on June 21. I ordered on June 2. Oh but it's going to take so long before the machine arrives at Taiwan. Will look forward to reviews from those happy users who live closer by.

Sony is quick to respond to questions on Amazon, but I don't know if this is a plus to their business.I've never seen so many NO on an Amazon product page: No, there's no dictionary, No, this does not connect to a Bluetooth keyboard. No, it doesn't sync with dropbox directly. No, this only supports Windows/Mac systems. No, it doesn't have a browser. No, there's currently no plan to add one. It becomes hilarious after a while.

Really, people should read the product description - preferably prior to ordering. This is not a general-purpose computer, but a specialist single-function device. It's a bit silly to order a device that's sold specifically for doing task "A", and then complain that it won't do "B", "C", "D" and "E" when it was never claimed that it would .

Thank goodness it does not support a browser. It's a machine dedicated to reading PDFs, annotating and commenting on them, and producing your own handwritten notes and sketches. I'm sure Sony will be happier not hearing complaints about how poorly the browser performs.

No Bluetooth keyboard support, yeah! It's a device that is meant to be used with a stylus, not with a keyboard. We all learned how to write and sketch by hand, it's far more efficient than with a keyboard.

No dictionary, that might be nice, but we have plenty of dictionaries available on our smart phones.

Windows/Mac, what else is there? Android? Please, no, it's not needed, everybody in the world already has a Windows or Mac machine, I have both.

As for syncing, this has already been discussed here. While disappointing, it's not a deal breaker.

To me, the S1 and RP1 are idea generators. Engage your brain and your hand and take a break from the keyboard. Have you ever seen pages from an inventor's notebook? That's what this is, a modern inventor's notebook.

I have Linux and I love it. I used DOS and Windows, but Windows 10 is a deal-breaker for me. There are many little things that sum up to a annoying pile of shit. Mac is not far from Linux. I would not go back to Windows. The missing support for Linux nowadays is really sad. Academics often use Linux especially in the IT division.
Android would be perfect. No need for Windows for me.
