I have (I believe) an older version of ADE (I've had it for ages 1..7.2.1131)

I tried downloading from a different library and got the same error on a different book.

Any ideas/thoughts/information/direction?

1.7.2 no longer works with Overdrive. You need to install ADE 2.0.1. Do not install a later version as you risk getting ePub with DRM you cannot remove. you can still get ADE 2.0.1 from Adobe.

That appears to be exactly what was wrong. I know that I downloaded book(s) from these libraries after they upgraded their overdrive, but maybe the went to a newer version or something in the past week or two.

I was able to download the book that was not working and now I guess I need to figure how I want to manage the drm stuff....It didn't work the old old way I've been doing it, but did the drag and drop thing and that worked.

will have to fiddle with ALF stuff.
I tried installing it on my laptop and no luck. will have to figure that out as well.

I really hate this upgrading krap. Once I have a method that works I just want it to keep working. Grrrrr!

Once you have the key, it's easiest to use the plugin for Calibre to remove the DRM.

There was a problem with the TCL library in the python on the laptop....figured that out from the ALF docs and it seems to have worked properly....or at least I possibly have a new 'method' that will work.

I may try the calibre plugin at some point, but have avoided that up to this point. I'm one of those old command line guys and want to see where everything is going etc. etc.

I think I'm good for now, but I did see one thing that bothers me....When I check out a book on my desktop, it won't let me view it on the laptop ADE. Is that new? I've not had ADE installed on multiple machines in years. Maybe it was always that way?

When you installed ADE 2.0.1 did you use the same Adobe account to register?

I did inadvertently install ADE 4.5 on the laptop in this process trying to figure out what was going on. I used the 'default' authorization on it (the laptop) but just now changed it to my Adobe ID and it didn't seem to make any difference.

I keep getting E_STREAM_ERROR when trying to download into ADE 2.0.1

I get it today too. It has been working but it doesn't work this morning (with that error).

It took 45 Minutes to get 5 books. I keep hitting the ascm file in my temp folder. Keep trying. I got mine all finally.

I've just downloaded a couple of books from Overdrive and I had no problem. Seems whatever was wrong may be fixed.
