ePubSplit not compatible with ePub3
Apparently one of the omnibus volumes I downloaded is ePub3 so ePubSplit can't handle it. Any alternative? I wouldn't mind converting the ePub3 to ePub2 but not sure how. And it's possible it wouldn't work anyway-there might be a reason it's ePub3. Or not. Still, better solution IMO would be an ePubSplit alternative that handles ePub3. Suggestions?

Never mind. I found the option to convert to ePub2 under Conversion. Not the best solution but it appeared to work. We'll know for sure when I check the result of splitting it.

It's not that difficult to convert your standard ePub 3 novel to ePub 2. I do it a lot in the Calibre editor. No conversion needed.

Great plugin. This is my first use of it on an omnibus epub.
Every book has a cover page included. When I split the first book out, it had the omnibus cover image. So I changed the setting to not 'Copy Cover'. Now there is no cover image displayed in calibre. Is there a way to edit the TOC before I split to update 'Guide' to say a page is the cover page? Or something else I'm missing? It is the first page in the split book. I tried to edit book and set cover image page and cover image, but that didn't update the cover displayed in calibre. According to Version 2.1.2, all embedded fonts should be included in split book. No fonts were included in my new book. Has this changed in version 3.0? Is there some setting I'm missing. Yes, there are embedded fonts in the source book. Thanks so much for this plugin. |

Covers
Usually, the first page of an epub contains the cover image. The epub format also defines a metadata entry that designates an image file in the epub as the cover. EpubSplit, as I recall, does not attempt to designate an official cover image in the split epubs when 'Copy Cover' is off. I assume that is what is preventing Calibre from automatically using the first page as cover, but I could be wrong. However, assuming that the cover is the first page of the epub (even if not designated as 'cover' in the metadata), you can use Calibre's 'Set book cover from e-book file' feature. In the individual book metadata editor, it's the button to the upper left of the ebook formats list. In the multiple book metadata editor, it's one of the options in the 'Change cover' group. Once Calibre has cover images in the library, you can experiment with using Calibre's Polish or the Modify Epub plugin to push them back into the epub files, but depending on different factors, that may lead to duplicate 'cover' pages. Calibre's 'Edit book' feature has the ability for you to explicitly designate which image is the 'cover', but it only works on individual books. The other tools can be used on several at once. Fonts I have forgotten basically anything I may have known 4 years ago about embedded fonts in epubs. The code is limited to "include all file with type 'application/x-font-truetype' in all output epubs". It is entirely possible that your epub is different, but I would need to see it to know how. If your source epub is not subject to copyright restrictions, you could post it here for me to see. Or somewhere else and send me a Private Message with the link. |

Covers
'Set book cover from e-book file' did the trick. Calibre has so many features it's hard to know about many of them. Even the ones hiding in plain sight. Didn't need to alter anything in edit ebook to get the cover. I will do a modify epub to push cover and metadata changes. UPDATE: Using set book cover does result in a duplicate cover image. A new file called cover.jpg is added to the epub. UPDATE 2: Duplicate cover only happens if I don't edit the book file and flag the cover page and cover images as 'cover'. Fonts I Ran a check on the source EPUB in edit book. Got the error: Quote:
I'm splitting books like magic now. Thanks again. Last edited by Freakeao; 01-02-2021 at 04:21 PM. Reason: Cover duplicate |

New Test Version Attached
2021-01-02 - Accept a wider range of types as font files. - Update translations. Looking at Calibre's code, it does appear appropriate to include some other types too: application/vnd.ms-opentype application/x-font-ttf application/x-font-truetype application/font-sfnt Last edited by JimmXinu; 01-04-2021 at 02:37 PM. I'm having a slight problem with EpubSplit, and it just started happening in the past 14 days. I used to be able to highlight the first selection, and then find the last one and [shift+click] to select all of the ones I need to split off. Now I can only [ctrl+click] each individual selection - bug, or what am I suddenly doing wrong? Calibre version is 4.23

EpubSplit hasn't changed since early Nov2020.
Shift-click works fine for me, tried it in 4.23 too. That is an inherent behavior in the PyQt listbox that EpubSplit uses. if it's not working for you, I suspect something has gone wrong with your system. I'd try the usual restart/reboot/reinstall dance, but if it comes back, it's not going to be something I can help you with. |

Thanks. A removal and reinstall of the plugin solved the problem.
