Sony PRS-T1 in Calibre

When I load books to my T1 with Calibre, I noticed I have about 50 book covers showing up under "Pictures" where I get my screensaver pics. I know Calibre stores the covers separately on my computer, but only about half of the covers show up in Pictures. I deleted a few and, of course, the cover of the book was blank.
Is this normal behaviour?

I jump in here with a quick question (that probably is more of a statement...)

I have older Macintoshes, non-intel PPC ones that is. Running Mac OS 10.5.8 Leopard.

I got my T1 today, plugged it in one of my computers, which recognised the device by showing two icons on the desktop, "Reader" and "Setup". (Due to old system architecture, "Setup" couldn't be run).

Calibre (0.7.28 is the best I can use with my old Macs) didn't detect the T1 (but has no problems detecting my Nokia N900 if that is of any interest, I doubt it...).

Now, I can live with that. Drag and drop will suffice. Just want to confirm that my computers are to old for Calibre software to connect with my T1?

I do also want to thank the guys behind Calibre for a great software.

Yes - the latest version of Calibre that will run on that version of OS X are too old to have the built-in PRS-T1 driver.

It is too old to find the T-1, but you might benefit greatly by using the Connect to folder option to directly connect to a folder on your T-1. Using this method you will have most of the benefits of connecting to a device.

I can't figure out if I have spotted a bug or if I have stupidly left a box unticked :-D

In "Preferences->Advanced->Plugins->Device Interface Plugins->Sony PRS-T1 And Newer" I have ticked the equivalent boxes that I had ticked for my PRS-300. But, when I view the books on the ereader sorted by Author, all the titles are jumbled. They were in alphabetical order on my PRS-300. So I want:
Smith, John My Life
Smith, Larry A is for Apple
Smith, Larry B is for Banana
Smith, Larry C is for Cat
Smith, Larry D is for Dog

and instead I have:
Smith, John My Life
Smith, Larry C is for Cat
Smith, Larry A is for Apple
Smith, Larry D is for Dog
Smith, Larry B is for Banana

Sony Bug? Calibre Bug? Or have I just messed up somehow?

Sony Bug. I encountered the same thing.

When it sorts by certain fields, it seems to hate authors that are too long, and it seems to focus strictly on the first/last name, and will sometimes ignore stuff that looks like a middle name. Titles have similar problems (too long and the sorting starts to fail).

Although in Sony's defense, it really isn't a bug in their eyes. The author fields aren't really meant to have the author information embedded in them and Sony wrote the T1 firmware with that assumption.

Just got the following error on latest version of calibre.

Strange, I didn't really change anything, and device is working fine. Any ideas why this could be happening?

The SONY database is corrupted.  Delete the file /Volumes/READER/Sony_Reader/database/books.db on your reader and then disconnect  reconnect it. If you are using an SD card, you  should delete the file on the card as well. Note that  deleting this file will cause your reader to forget  any notes/highlights, etc.

Well line 1 would appear to tell you exactly what needs to be done.

If your question was more of a Why? than a What-to-do-next?, I don't know. I've been using v0.8.32 all week without any trouble.

It could just be missing an entry it expects
There is corrupt (not as expected) and CORRUPT (damaged).
#2 does not seem to be the issue
