Of what?? I've been chased by one!
(True story from when we still had cats. Walked into the kitchen followed by the small grey cat. Noticed a large spider on the floor. The cat also saw the spider and went over and batted at it, a little gingerly. The spider ran... towards her. And for a few seconds there was me, the cat and the spider going round in circles in the kitchen...) |

Just stomp on the ground and you'll see the spider take off for the nearest shaded area or object to take cover. When they see you they see some form of cover, not a threat. They have absolutely no intelligence. They're predators and we're NOT their food.

One of the neatest things I ever saw was a cricket crawling up a wall. He froze about 4 feet up when he noticed the jumping spider about 12 inches above him. Then he jumped off the wall. The spider jumped at the same time and caught him mid-air and swung back to the wall on a strand of webbing with his prize. It was like having a front row seat on a miniature set of Wild Kingdom!

As much as I dislike spiders, jumping spiders are fascinating. If you get close to one, or gently tap near it, it will turn to face you (or at least, the UK ones do).
Yvan - I've used the foot stomping trick before, most recently when I saw thin legs start to appear from under the freezer! The rational, logical part of me knows I shouldn't be scared of them - especially as the ones in the UK aren't exactly the most poisonous (I did get a bit of a shock when I discovered that some species of them here are poisonous ![]() |

People that get stung by poisonous spiders rarely die didn't you see "Arachnophobia"?
The bites from "poisonous" spiders in the northern hemisphere are no worse than a bee sting. Elsewhere, sick people children and elderly folks might die of a spider bite. But they are painful. |

You know, having spiders in your home is a warning. Ask yourself this: what are they eating?
That's what you should be worried about. |
