So, as I posted earlier I had finally decided which coloured pencils I wanted to get, the Derwent Coloursofts. I had planned on getting the 24 pencil set, but when comparing prices of various art suppliers this morning I found out that my local art supply store had the 72 pencil set in a wooden box on sale for 40% off list price . An offer that is very hard to refuse.

I got it this morning and my father spend even more time drooling over it than I did . Now I have to get over the feeling that it's a shame to start using them because the whole set looks so nice.

Unfortunately, I found out that there is not a lot of natural light at my friends' place and the artificial lighting is very dim, which makes mixing colours and choosing the right colours very hard. Since they'll be back in 6 or 7 days I'm not bringing my hobbylight with daylight lamp over. When the weather is good I'll sit outside and experiment with mixing colours.

Next week, when I go home I'll go see if the second hand bookstore has plant and flower books I can use as inspiration.

That depends on:

A) where those thoughts take you, and;

B) how you feel about it.

That's cuz yer a girl... Guys only get to use five colors; red, blue, green, yellow, and black. If a guy wants to use 'peach,' 'mauve,' or 'chartreuse' we are required to have gender-reassignment surgery.

LOL.
I'm not very good at mixing colours (yet), so having 72 colours available instead of 12 or 24 is a big bonus for me.

My friends are returning either on Tuesday or Wednesday next (depending how fast they drive from the south of France back home) and I'm glad. Although I like taking care of a dog after two weeks of planning my days around dog walks I'm glad I have the freedom to do what I want without having to plan it first. Luca makes it harder than than the previous dog to go out because she's used to being walked four times a day, Lyca was walked three times a day, and she obviously doesn't like being left alone for a long time.

Also, Luca isn't Lyca. We get along okay, which is due to the fact that she doesn't listen to me that well. This is because her previous owners taught her to listen only to men and not women and because she's so stubborn. I know that she understands my commands but she just doesn't want to listen. Of course I was spoiled with Lyca; she was trained as a police dog and listened to every command (she didn't become a police dog because she was too nice).

Next week I can start counting down for my own holiday.

Last night in Vegas - really enjoyed it; great meal at Aquaknox in the Venetian.

Not enjoyed the American coverage of the Olympics Basically, you would be pretty hard pressed to work out that countries other than the US were participating. Also, laughable jingoism over the basketball. Lots of coverage of the US basketball team beating Nigeria by about a gazillion to 7 with lots of exhortation to us viewers to marvel at the brilliance on display. Sorry, no, I am not impressed by the fact that the only country with a real basketball league beats a country where about 73 people have even heard of basketball. It's about as classy as me challenging a 3 year old to an arm wrestling contest and then celebrating wildly when I win!

Anyway, on to Vancouver tomorrow.

Yesterday I mentioned to my father that now I'm at my friends' place I enjoy taking a shower in the morning and a quick one to rinse off before going to bed. At home we have one bathroom and I always shower at night because if I want to shower in the morning I would have to get up very early because my parents and sister shower in the morning.

My father then casually remarked that with some redesign and putting the wash dryer on the washing machine it might be possible to fit a shower in the utility room next to my bedroom. So now I'm looking at showers with 4 walls (so it's easy to install).

You can still see the "skeleton" of it in the Las Vegas Hotel & Casino (formally the Hilton). They didn't bother to remodel the walls, floors, or entrances.
