Is there anyone who knows a good but reasonably priced hotel in or near the city centre of Dublin?
I live in Birmingham and worked in Dublin for a while. Of the two, Dublin is better as a tourist destination in my opinion. I suppose the only thing in Birmingham's favour is its proximity to other interesting places for day trips (Stratford-on-Avon, Warwick etc..).

I'm afraid that when I was in Dublin it was on expenses, so I can't really help with the hotel question - sorry.

I studied at the university of Wolverhampton for half a year for three years (two of those half years I lived in Walsall). Birmingham was the place we escaped to. I've been back several times and last year I fell in love with Coventry and wanted to explore more, Birmingham is cheaper than Coventry so that's why I wanted to stay there.

Birmingham is a safe place for me to go to because I know the area. I've never been to Dublin and would love to go but I'm totally unfamiliar with the area.

Nice looking cats, but Stella looks like she needs to go on a diet. I like the view from your kitchen window. Looks peaceful.

Stella does have a few extra ounces .....

The window looks out onto our back yard - lots of trees & shade - we hang hummingbird & song bird feeders - and it's the most popular yard in the neighborhood for outdoor cats (and squirrels). But also - very quiet.

Nice setup. You feed the hummingbirds and the songbirds; they feed Stella and Goldie.

Trying to re-learn all the Thai that I've forgotten during these last three years. Thai has no prefixes or suffixes, no genders for nouns, no articles, and no verb conjugation. What it does have instead, to drive a sane man crazy, is five different tones! You can say the same word five different tones and have it mean five completely different things.
"Ma ma ma ma ma" can mean 'the new silk is burning.' (And being severely deaf, I usually can't hear the tones anyway!)
Add to that the fact that there are 47 pronouns, and at least 17 for "I" and 19 for "you!"
Word order is a bit off-putting too... "Today my friend you me called." = 'Your friend called me today.'

Maybe I should just stay in Japan...

Thanks for the link!
For now I've decided to go to Dublin. An added bonus is also that I can book it easier with a Dutch travel agency (they don't offer package holidays to Birmingham) so I don't need to use my credit card but I can pay with iDeal (online debit card payment method).

Probably in some way or another. But Behassa Malay is pretty easy. It uses the Roman alphabet and no tones. Passa Thai uses a really pretty set of 'letters' that to me look as if they should be read from right to left but are actually read left to right, but with lots of accent marks, and the tones make a very big difference. I believe Mandarin uses four tones, and of course, 350,000 funny little pictures that all have to be memorized instead of letters.

Japanese has no tones at all, although you do hear some at times, such as rising tone for questions. And in Japanese, the verb almost always comes at the very end of the sentence, so you can never interrupt someone when speaking because you don't know what they are going to say until they are finished! Also, instead of 47 pronouns, Japanese seems to have 147 different ways to apologize or say 'excuse me!'

Give me something simple like Behassa Malay... Want to make an adverb or adjective stronger? Just say it twice. He runs fast fast! She's pretty pretty!

Even if he sends it today, won't it still take several weeks to reach you. Maybe you should wait for his pasalubong?
