Shou mei white.

I bought it a few months ago and was unimpressed. I decided to try it again and I'm still unimpressed. There's a mellow sweetness, but without the freshness that I was expecting from a white tea or the bold flavors that I get from more oxidized teas. There's sort of a jumble of tea flavors reminiscent of both oolong and mild Darjeeling teas, but rather than combining to something delicious, it just makes me want one of those instead.

Disappointing, Difflugia. We've all had tea buying experiences like that, and all I can suggest is to try switching brewing temperatures a bit, see if that brings out a different element that helps. Or, failing that, bin it.

This morning's tea is Balmoral Blend, from Murchie's. It looks like the sun will slide in and I'll celebrate with a bright and bold tea.

Fortunately, I didn't buy very much. I've been brewing it with a long steep in cooler water that gives wonderful results with the silver needles, but the hints of oxidized flavors make me think you're right and I should try really hot water to see what happens.

Right now, I'm having one of the Chinese black blends that I already knew I liked.

Tea this morning. Something that claims (with no verisimilitude whatsoever, I'm afraid) to be Keemun Hao Ya 'A'. Not at all memorable, a sure sign either I, or the tea merchant, were had from the evidence. This was from Capitol Tea in Toronto, and I've always had good dealings with them, so I think they were had, frankly. Sigh. I should just toss it and order from TeaSprings if I want good Keemun.
